For all the Cruise shouldn’t have shown up because he wasn’t going to win anyway, why is he special compared to EVERYONE ELSE who showed up when Everything Everywhere kept sweeping almost every award in every award show?

That was a punk move from an egocentric schmuck who didn’t want to be the butt of any jokes and couldn’t face the fact that he might not have all the town’s smoke blown up his ass like he and some of you thought he deserved as a human right.

It was likely he wasn't going to win and he was working. Maybe I am thinking of a different awards show but hasn't the Oscar's before had "just in case" camera crews for people not there who were working? I swear I have seen that before or maybe that was a different awards show. If so, I wouldn't think that is a big deal not being there.

Why does he need to show up? I'm not going to fault anyone for not showing up to that self aggrandizing show that mainly functions as an ego stroke. I'd probably do the same thing. All I want out of Tom or any actor is to entertain me with their movies/shows. The pomp and circumstance outside of that does not matter and can be a distraction. I'd rather him be working on his next project then wasting a night going to something he's not into.

I feel the same with athlete when it comes to interviews and stuff outside of the game. Give me the cranky Randy Johnson that wins cy youngs and a WS for us over a gregarious scrub that takes us nowhere.

Like all award shows, the Oscars main function is to serve as a catalyst to create excitement and business for the industry. When a film or a recording artist sweeps up a lot of awards, it creates consumer demand to experience those products.

Not true. He’s getting blasted around the industry and on podcasts also. It’s a total slap in the face not just to the other nominees but SPECIFICALLY to those on your own crew who were nominated, had a chance to win and DID win in a couple spots for both movies.

More people didn't show up than DID show up IMO. From Meryl Streep to Zendaya and Tom Holland.

Many were in town, went to the after parties, but skipped the show. Spike Lee went to the Staples Center and watched the Knicks game.
