I think it is a good deal which the Cardinals offered Wilson, the numbers of the contract show respect for Wilson as not as only important to the Cardinals but one of the better safeties in the league. It makes me wonder even more if Boldin and Dansby are not living in a world of reality and how much they are really worth...THE CARDINALS ARE NOT CHEAP, some players are greedy :)

Wilson is now the highest paid safety in the league, so much for the Cards not rewarding their players. This organization has turned the corner, and anybody who claims that the Cardinals are 'cheap', they clearly know nothing about football, or this team. U of P stadium has been a godsend, and it's clearly moved this team in the right direction.

I think the cheap stigma is gone now that Michael B is running the show. I got so sick of hearing those rumors about players having to buy extra socks, gatorade fridges being locked on Tuesdays and having players pay to have their contracts fed exed to them. Things have changed these past couple of years, and people have taken notice.

As much as it pains me to do this, but I have to give kudos to the FO for getting the contract done relatively early. Now, Graves can move on to the next project; whether it be Dansby or Boldin....

And guaranteed that idiot pundits and ignorant NFL fans will completely ignore that when discussing boldin...

Let's be realistic here, folks. Unless Dansby signs a long-term deal, we will not have the cap space to give Boldin a good enough deal.

Just to toss it out there.....release Dansby and sign Boldin.

Adrian is one of my favourite Cardinals; this is fantastic news, and probably the best news I have heard so far this offseason!!

Great job by FO in locking Wilson up. Hopefully, he will retire a Cardinal!

I love the signing and am extremely happy it got done, but I can't share your joy in this area. For what should have been a slam-dunk contract extension, it took forever and has helped hamper our efforts in getting others done, IMO. We had the entire offseason to get an extension done with a guy negotiating in good faith that really wanted to be here. It took until early June to get it done. That is incredibly slow and sad, considering we have other contracts to get done. And, if it takes us that long to get an easy one done, how in the heck will we get a complicated one done in little over a month?

I don't want to rain on parades or anything, but this contract was not even close to getting done 'relatively early'.

Still love this story: I wonder if Polamalu just came back from vacation early...

"Talk about a shutdown safety. Wilson shut down his vacation four days into a planned 17-day retreat and returned home in a bid to raise his game and finally reach the playoffs this season in Arizona."

I like it when dedication pays off. Playoffs, and a payday. Nice work AW!

1. Getting Wilson done didnt hamper anything, not even a little. Not an arguement can be made otherwise, not even one. The only player that can be said of is Dansby and his 10 mill.

2. Why are people so concerned about when it was done. It was done, period, end of story. He is a Cardinal for life yet people want to bash because it wasnt done according to their own arbitrary based on nothing time schedule.

3. Hardly a slam dunk deal, not even a little bit. Highest paid safety is not even in the same realm as slam dunk deal. Uncertian 2011 season and CBA is hardly a slam dunk deal.

If Somers is right then I was way off (its not the first time and wont be the last time either) and the Cards greatly front loaded the deal. When a week ago that wasnt the case. It may be becuase of the possible 2011 lockout and was a contingency Wilsons camp asked for.

This is what we know for sure -

5 years
15.5 mill signing bonus
3 Mill Roster or Option bonus (not sure which yet I know what the media is saying but they mix the two types of bonuses all the time when in fact there is a very big difference according to the cap - Roster bonus gets counted all in that year where an option bonus gets spread out over the remaining years of the deal)
37 Mill total that can be 39 mill total if he reaches incentives.

This is where I have an issue with what is being reported -

I also do not trust the 8.5 mill base salary being thrown around because the numbers do not add up. Somers based on Sando's work says the total cap hit is 10.2 mill for this year. Well if his base salary is 8.5 mill and his signing bonus is 15.5 that would make his cap hit this year (8.5 + 15.5/5 = 11.6 mill) and add in his remaining bonus from his last contract that still needs to be added this year and his cap hit should be 12.4 mill not 10.2 mill. So either the 8.5 mill reported base salary is wrong or the 15.5 mill signing bonus is wrong. Something is screwy with Sando or Sommers math and I am not sure where yet. We shall see.

Well deserved. See what happens when you play well and keep your mouth shut? While A-dub was crying for joy after the NFC CG #81 was bolting out the back door with Drew. Well played FO.

Second the motion. If I was signing the checks he was number one on the list for me....either through the draft or f/a try and find a talent like wilson.....leader, hitter, sure tackler etc. just the opposite of the squeeky wheel gets the grease!!. Did not negotiate through the media.

As much as I support the "Rod Graves: Innocent Bystander" line of thinking I think we have to take a step back and say it got done so good job.

As Joe stated it got done in a matter so we can still reasonably address Dansby before July 15th and now that Q has a new agent it also sets a bit of good will for the organzation to start those talks.

Easy or not, or even a little later then it should have been, it got done. So maybe along with the ownership, fan base, and product on the field Rod Graves can in fact change too.

Lets hope so ;)

For your first point, I absolutely agree. It's Dansby that will hamper getting Boldin done, and not the Wilson deal.

For the rest, Joe, I will go against what I usually do and disagree 100 percent. Why are people concerned when it was done? Because it makes it less likely that other deals get done. Why does time matter, as long as it's before the season? Because the Dansby deal has a deadline (July 15th), and without a Dansby deal, IMO no Boldin deal will get done.

Still plenty of time to get Dansby done, one might say? I wouldn't. If it took us this long to get Dansby done, and it is so hard for the FO to focus on more than one deal at a time, what is there that gives us any type of confidence that a Dansby deal can get done in a little more than a month? I'd love it to happen and I'll hope it can happen, but I have ZERO confidence Graves can do it that fast. None.

As to your last point, Joe...it wasn't a slam-dunk in terms of it being a huge contract, and those are naturally more difficult. Fine. It was a slam dunk because both sides really wanted it done, and negotiated in perfectly good faith. Yes, the deal should have been done earlier. You won't convince me otherwise. And, because it is soooo difficult for the FO to multi-task in large contract negotiations, the fact that Wilson's deal wasn't done did, IMO, hamper getting Dansby done. The money wasn't the factor, but the negotiating time was.
