A Hypothetical Question- Would you rather seen 8-8 or a lower record to draft higher?

Don't look anymore into this question then that..it's never nice seeing a team lose. However, has anyone given thought about draft possibilities if the team continues to lose?

Ive been giving thought to salary cap too. If we have to keep handing out top 10 contracts.

Last year yes but this year I think the team needs help in the attitude department and as a reward for playing hard especially on defense.

Hopefully our draft jockeying days are over. I'll take the wins and I still think we end up around the top ten so it's another big contract or maybe a trade down but that's not likely.

I'd take DeAngelo Williams and be happy if we can get him. We need FA O line help and a QB would be nice.

I'm thinking Bledsoe would be very good if the line can hold up and we get williams then you just need a very fast WR even if they are a project. I'd waste some lower round picks on a couple maybe try for a FA but there aren't many burners that are any good for sale this year.

I'd like to see 8-8.

We will get a good player wherever we draft. That much I DO know about Denny Green.

I actually think he got a good player (maybe not starter, but solid backup) in Navarre.

I think winning is very important, at this stage in the team's development and in the FA market.

This is opposite of my feelings after the Vikings game last year, mind you. But this is a different scenario...

Conrad, where's your best guess that DeAngelo will be taken?

I would love to have this guy...

Denny has had bad drafts too in his NFL career. Its all a crap shoot. No way will we repeat last years draft prowess.

I will take 8-8 anyday over a high draft pick! Last years draft was much more loaded and right now this team is on the brink of being good. The attitude boost from having a good season would do us much more good than a high draft pick.

And besides Shane has a great point, we cant afford to keep paying top 10 draft money or we will be in trouble real soon.

He's more Jimmy Johnson than Dave Mac though.

I'm not worried about him making the wrong call at 12 or 15.

I'll take every win we can get. The draft is a crapshoot from pick #1 to "Mr. Irrevelant". It's just a matter of degrees. You play for wins, not draft spots.

I'd have to see the final draft order but right now my guess is that about half the teams will think he isn't big enough to go in the first round and the other half will salivate over him.

Then you have to factor in who needs what..

First off I don't see either Miami or Frisco taking him. Miami would probably like a power type runner and he isn't that.

Frisco maybe but I highly doubt it they need everything and I don't see him as that sure of a thing in their mind to waste that high of a pick on him.

I would guess right now he goes before 15 or so but a lot depends on his workouts and what teams are there.

Some think he will go in the 2nd but I doubt it. I wouldn't be able to wait that long I'd die of anxiety.

I love his high gear and he just looks like money but again he's a bit small so it's very hard to say.

Cool...I think he'll probably be gone by 15 too.

I think he might be the type of back Denny likes...I want to gauge his speed in their bowl game though....

I'd love to have this kid here.

Something about DeAngelos for me maybe...I wanted DeAngelo Hall too... :)

In all the mocks he's not even registering but he's my late rocket up the charts type pick unless he flounders in his bowl game and workouts.

DeAngelo will sky rocket. Like Conrad said - this is all about attitude and this team needs all the wins it can get. The draft is loaded this year as well at our key position of need - RB.

If we win two more games this season I will say DG worked wonders with what he gave himself to work with (but I will say that his handling of the QB situation during the offseason is a big reason we're not better).

I'll take the wins. I don't buy season tickets to pad our draft position.

If we tank, than I'll look at the draft as the silver lining to a dismal season.

Going 8-8 is much more important for the team's standpoint, heck every win higher than 4-8 is great for the team! What they carry off of the field this year, is what they will want to build upon during the offseason. So every win counts. This year will be used as a measuring stick for next year. If they only happen to go 6-10 this year which is a high likelyhood, then as a team they could set a goal for next year like 8-8 or so. If they finish 8-8, not likely, but if they were to, they could set a 10-6 goal. If each year they can improve by 2 wins, then that is progress and nothing to be disappointed about. You can't fast fry the bird, you got to slow roast it

8-8 easy. I've seen the "high" draft picks for too many years and hasn't worked too well. Holdouts, too much money tied up in one player that is unproven. Blech.

8-8.

With the exeption of last year where I wanted a franchise QB I am all for trading out of the top 10 every year.

i'm torn. i think the team needs the 8-8 for an offseason attitude adjustment. winning is contagious. ending on a 4 game win streak would be terrific for these guys going into next year. but they can't be fluky wins. they can't be 90 yards passing wins. do they have to be blowouts? no. but they have to be solid wins. something to build on.

alternatively, we're 4-8. we suck. sucky teams have one silver lining . . . higher draft picks. it's a tool that is meant to promote parity. 4-8 is a team that is showing the effects of parity. it is a team that is showing the effects of sucking. if denny can effectively use the draft and high position again to our advantage, then it's difficult not to lean towards the higher draft pick.

finally, deangelo, deangelo, deangelo.

Obviously 8-8. But Green IMO is positioning himself for better picks now.

Guaranteed to be asked at least once during a losing year. And the answer remains the same:

1. The game is called Football. Purpose is to - Win as many games possible. (I don't watch the Cards each week on the TeeVee so that I can see them lose and then shout: "Yippee. Now we'll draft higher!")

2. The name of the game isn't "The Draft Game" (where teams compete to have the nicest draft).

3. Besides - A high draft position doesn't guarantee that a team will have a good draft or that a seemingly good draft will necessarily turn it into a consistent winner. (Example: our own Cardinals during the past 2 decades).

4. Not only that, but the cap is a fixed amount. How much you pay for rooks is variable. Draft high and you'll have less money to spend on your veterans.

Do not worry about 8-8 we should easily draft in the top 10. that is the reality of the situation. I think players always play to win in the NFL unless they have the title sewed up and hold out key players to prevent injury. I regularly see the QB taken out when a game is out of reach for the winner. Who would keep Manning in if you had a 30 point lead with 8 minutes to go. That would be stupid.
