FWIW, Mike, I agree that we ought to be able to get along without having a lot of policing. You need to have some because I think we've all seen entire message boards killed by one or two egos going off the deep end. The limitations on newer members starting threads is probably helpful as it keeps someone from joining and littering the thread list with trash.

Personally, I like the 'trade proposal' forum - I tend to forego reading such threads so its nice to have them neatly segregated.

I think it would be very cool if we would all simply ignore trolls. Its not like we haven't learned that they feed off any response we make - and if you don't feed them they don't stay for long.

I wonder if the software is capable of something like enforcing a time minimum between posts by one poster on one thread - something like ten or fifteen minutes. That would give us time to reflect and cool down and thus keep the hostility level from spiraling upward. Maybe, a limit of not more that two posts in a half hour, so you can make one quick retort but then you have to slow down.

You would really want to cut back on my pithy comments that much? You would actually make me go back to work during the day?

I doubt there is a mechanical solution to these issues, although I understand what you are getting at. It would be like if someone posted three times in a five post sequence to require a certain number of intervening posts. I'm sure we've all done it inadvertently; but it is usually a sign of a thread being taken over as personal dialogue.
