Sad fact is if at the begining of the season I told you the following things were true prior to the last game of the season:

"Our starting QB's will combine for over 4400 yards, complete almost 62% of thier passes, and have more TD's then Int's thrown."

"We will have 2 WR's who in the final game have a great chance of passing 100 receptions and 1400 yards each, and combined will have 16 TD's."

"We will have the best kicker in the league, who will have a great chance of breaking the FG record, and who will consistantly kick it for touchbacks"

"We will have a top 10 ranked defense who will have produce 34 turnovers going into that final game"

"We will have 2 starters in the pro-bowl and 3 alternates going into the pro-bowl"

Lets be honest, based on all those comments you would be hyped up going into the season feeling we should definitly have a winning record and probably going into the playoffs. Unfortunatly I also have to inform you of the following:

"Our special teams will be ranked dead last in the NFL on punt/KO coverage, giving up 5 TD's to opponants on that coverage"

"Our running game will be dead last, with a good shot to break the record for worst running attack ever going into the final game of the season, averaging just 63 yards per game AS A TEAM"

"We will lose the Turnover battle and be -13 going into the final game"

"We will easily be one of the MOST penalized teams in the league, and a number of the penalties will come at the worst time (i.e. on 3rd down we stop them, give up a penalty giving them a first keeping a drive alive)"

"We will be decimated by injuries, losing a number of quality starters for at least 1 game and most for multiple games including, but not limited to: Def- Bertrand Berry(8 ), Karlos Dansby (1), James Darling (2), Russel Davis (13), Eric Green (2), Gerald Hayes (season), Kenny King (season), David Macklin (1), Calvin Pace (10), Antrel Rolle (10). Off- JJ Arrington (1), Anquan Boldin (2), Jeremy Bridges (9), Elton Brown (7), James Hodgins (14), Bryant Johnson (2), Nick Lecky (2), Neil Rackers (2), JR Redmond (season), Oliver Ross (4), Alex Steponavich (6), Marcel Shipp (1), Kurt Warner (5), & Reggie Wells (6). and over 15 players both starters and backups will end up on the IR before the final game."

See the other half of the quote and you could very well see us now at the 5-10 we are, this tells us a couple of things to me:

#1 We need O-Line help, both quaility starters and more quality depth players if injuries occur.

#2 We need a new special teams Coach

#3 We need to improve our discipline (one thing is alot of our penalties were on special teams so hopefully fixing #2 will help #3)

#4 We hopefully will not have to be completely decimmating by injuries.

.

You can completely disregard the Boldid part as fact. Rackers hasnet been consistebtly kicking TB's since week 5 or 6. His leg strength on KO's went down considerably and hasent made any KO's the last 3 or four weeks due to injury. HE has been AWESOME at FG's. But overall his KO's became a dissapointment. He racked up those 22 TB's in the first 6 games.

He's had two games in which he didn't have a touch back. And hasn't been doing the kick offs for several weeks due to injury. I wouldn't call him a dissapointment at all.

In this day and age it's more of a remake than a sequel...

Until the injury, Rackers was still kicking the crap out of the ball on KO's. What changed after the first several games was that teams realized we couldn't cover the return and started running them out. If you look at the first 5 or 6 games of the season, teams where downing the ball 2 yds deep in the endzone. By week 6 or 7, they started running them out from 6 yds deep (and always got it out to at least the 28 yd line  ). From then on, pretty much all of the touchbacks came from balls kicked entirely out of the endzone.

Does anyone know how many tackles Rackers has made or been involved with this season? That would be an interesting stat to put alongside the league leading touchback number. Special teams has certainly been a one-man-show this year.

Per NFL.com Rackers has had 2 tackles this year. Last year 4.

Thanks!

Not to continue picking at this festering wound, but I found these stats to be pretty typical of this season:

We lead in touchbacks with 23 (21% more than the second place team), but also have 3 times as many kicks returned for TDs than anyone else.

I also noticed that Rackers leads the league with 38 FG's and the Giant's Jay Feely is second with 32. While this is primarily due to the Card's pathetic red zone offense, I was surprised to see that Feely has attempted only one less field goal than Racker's.

What does it all mean? Special Teams could use a little work. :D
