Flagstaff in late July: Not a better place in the world. I could write a book about the place and not do it justice. However, for all of its wonderful attributes there is one activity that stands out above all the rest: the 5:30 jog to the outdoor practice fields with my brother. Sounds corny and it probably is, but to get up at 5:00 and step outside and see your breath on a crisp (45-50 degree) morning, the smell of the pondersosa pines, and then the jog to the most beautiful training camp venue in the NFL is a little piece of heaven. To get to that field at 5:30 and see the dew on the grass, the mountains looming in the distance and that awesome smell of those ponderosa pines-PRICELESS!!!

I don't really jog. Its more like a jog/walk. Its pretty pathetic. My knees are about as bad as Johnny Roland's.

I prefer the 70 degree mornings with 85% humidity, and a long run, not a jog! But I have been doing it a few years.... and really can't stand cold weather!!!! :D

I will make it to flagstaff, one day!!!!!!
I stopped in there for a night, while flying back from NTC (Barstow Cal.) on my way back to Colorado. I think it was in October, ever since then it has been a place I wanted to visit!!!!! In my efforts to cinvinve the wife we shoudl go west on a vacation, attending the Cardinals training camp is the best reason I can come up with..... now I just need to get the timing down!!!!!!

After being forced to run Cross Country in the depths of the English winter as a kid, the concept of running as sport or excerise is appaling to me.

How can I explain the fun of running in a thin tee shirt on a damp and cold Decemember day. Running across a farmyard that is 2 feet deep in mud only to discover on the far side that both you shoes are still in the farmyard, somewhere. Oh the joy of it.

Never again and after 20+ years of Karate my knees are not that spiffy either.

This year my wife and I are staying with her uncle (about 2.2 miles from the "field"). Is it worth driving there only to follow my brother back to his hotel for breakfast? I think not.

We'll take deep breaths and long strides to make the early am rendesvous on the field. And don't listen to Holian - he'll jog the whole way to and from the field. This guy is still in the top 10 for stolen bases in the State of Illinois high school record books and easily would have qualified for state in several sprints had our school allowed concurrent participation in track and baseball. He's 33 and as much of a "jock" now as he ever was.

Jogging at my age could be dangerous. Gravity has taken over and caused things to sag extensively. Too much bouncing around and you might inadvertently step on one of those sagging things which would cause excrutiating pain.<p>I think I'll just stick to walking:D

It's a drill where you crawl on your hands and legs (not knees).

Generally, you have to crawl a couple of lengths of a football field.

God I hated that drill....Not as bad as doing 100 up downs though!

I played in school I haven't played since.... but here is my shot at what it is.

You race on all fours for a certian distance, trying to maintianing your balance and stay coordinated enough to not brake a wrist or fall on your face.
This is usually followed by a return trip of the foward or backward crab walk.....uuugghghhh!

Actually, we didn't bear walk in football...but we did every once in a while in the Army, especially in basic when we got the DI po-ed at us.
