I don't get the negativity on Dowdell. I see a very centered, fundamentally sound, traditional-style PG. He always seems to manage the game well when he's in there. What am I missing?

That what your impression is does not get supported by statistical evidence at all?

The Suns were horrible when Dowdell played, he is a scrub that maybe can develop into a competent backup PG at some point.

Individual plus/minus stats aren't of a whole lot of value for most players but they are just what you want for point guards since their job is to run the show. On that metric Dragic played much better for Houston than he did for Phoenix - in Houston his +/-(per 48) was -0.3 while in Phoenix it was -11.8. Or if you hate per48 stats his raw +/- stats were -2 vs -211. Or if you want to compare him individually against his man, his stats were +8.7 in Houston vs. -2.7 here. (not only was that 2nd best on the Rockets, it was way ahead of who was 3rd) His 82games simple rating in Houston was +4.9 (second best on the team) and in Phoenix -6.5 (down in muck with Barron and Siler).

I'm not sure what you mean by worst-case scenario, but these players signed deals knowing that they would have no opt-out clauses. That's a risk they took (and got paid for) and now they have to live with it.

Dowdell is a scrub like Lawal, both might develop into role players at some point but that is it.

Lots of Suns fans are drinking kool-aid saying Childress is a solid core player, Gorat an allstar in the making and Dowdell and Lawal good prospects.

I like how you casually threw Gortat in there.

Like it or not, he's pretty close to being an all-star level Center. 13/10 with upper-tier defense in 30 minutes a game at the Center position very solid these days.

If he improves just a little bit this season he will be in the conversation.

Your man crush on Lopez clouds your judgement. I hope Lopez returns to some form of respectability, but lets face it. He was a freaking disaster last year.
