More info that suggests Barkley choose Chicago over Arizona...

"— As for Matt Barkley, Keim said “I’m not going to say the opportunity wasn’t there” for Barkley to return to the Cardinals practice squad. Barkley instead signed to be on the Bears’ practice squad. “He probably saw the opportunity in Chicago as a better fit, and we wish him well,” Keim said."

This board was once the 'the place' to find AZ Cards info...it's become a low level intelligence...and worse yet the LAST place to find what's going on with the team. ESPN post faster than the forum here does now.
Disappointed in what this place has become
do something about it

That's my take as well after reading the Keim quote. Maybe BA didn't hug him enough or was too tough on him or maybe it was as Keim stated, he saw a better opportunity with the Bears.

We don't know whether Barkley, after clearing waivers, was approached by the Cards and decided to take the offer from the Bears to join their PS. Not likely, but still possible.

Seems this was the case:

— As for Matt Barkley, Keim said “I’m not going to say the opportunity wasn’t there” for Barkley to return to the Cardinals practice squad. Barkley instead signed to be on the Bears’ practice squad. “He probably saw the opportunity in Chicago as a better fit, and we wish him well,” Keim said.

Keim is using a lot of double negatives there.

There are two side to this story---the bottom line is the Cardinals cut Barkley. He was on the roster all of last year, which for any player is a clear-cut demotion in pay and status. Plus, BA&SK never talked him up or even gave him a chance to compete for the #2 job. I don't blame him for going to Chicago. While Drew Stanton has another year left on his $4.5M guaranteed contract worth $6.5M, Bears' #2 QB, Brian Hoyer is a UFA next year---so if Barkley impresses, he could be the backup to Cutler who seems to get dinged up every year.

The Bears' #2 QB is Brian Hoyer...Barkley could be the backup to Cutler...as soon as Cutler gets injured

Not a literal quote of you Mitch, but this is Barkley's best chance to play NFL football on Sundays/

Obviously Barkley could have been on the Cardinals practice squad but decided the Bears gave him a better route to a 53 man roster. That's his choice, not the Cardinals. I don't blame him for it and I won't fret over it. I would have preferred to keep him on the 53 man roster, but oh well.

We still need a qb of the future.

After being released by the Arizona Cardinals last week, he quickly landed on Chicago’s practice squad.

“Fresh start,” Barkley said Monday at Halas Hall. “A new situation with a team that’s expressed that they want me. They like me.”

Sounds like he couldn't handle BA's tough love:

Coach Bruce Arians saw progress from Barkley as the preseason wore on. He threw three interceptions over the first three games, and while he did lose a fumble in this one, there were no picks.

“Protecting the football,” said Arians, when asked where Barkley grew the most this preseason. “He got lucky, throwing the ball on the goal line that probably should have been intercepted. He’s got to quit forcing those kinds. But they didn’t catch it so that’s an improvement.”

Looks like he showed up to Bears HQ with his hurt feelings report in hand.

If only Matt had more moxie.

I am going to recommend to Keim that we no longer brinh in QBs that have the first name "Matt"

I think your reading way too much into "they like me"

Obviously they did and he is just stating it as such??

I don't know. There was something in the tone of Keim's response about Barkley this morning that made it seem like there was something more to this.

I asked this question, but didn't see an answer, as to the size and arm strength of the two QB's. Still don't know about the arm strength, but see both on the PS roster. And Murray DOESN"T have the size for a QB usually associated with BASK. Guessing there must be something that caused the team to sign him. Possibly as a scout team QB he mirrors some of the QB's we play, rather than as a QBOTF.

I believe it was Urban that said Murray & Dysert were to the 2 highest rated QB's available that were PS eligible. They wanted a couple of weeks to look at both of them.

Keim alluded to that a few weeks ago where he said that his analysis of Russell Wilson in the draft was "Chicken----". So size isn't as much of a factor as ability.

Murray was compared to Russell Wilson by some scouts coming out of college due to his shorter stature than your prototypical NFL QB.

What I think sparked the interest of the Cardinals in Murray is his touch and ability to throw the deep ball. If you can get the ball down the field with accuracy and consistency then BA will love you even if you are only 6 feet tall. Also Murray played at Georgia which runs a pro style offense which is another plus in BA's book.

This link just goes to an ESPN page with other stories... wow, I didn't know RGIII is now on IR... dude barely made it though 1 game. Browns are a dumpster fire!!

Sorry, the ESPN site is confusing to me (at least in how to link to it). The info is at the top right when I open that link, but here is the tweet, just in case.
