According to David Aldridge - The Suns may shop James Jones around.

no, he does. we used the allen houston rule on him this summer. so he doesnt count against the salery cap.

The oddly-named Allan Houston provision only affects the team's luxury tax obligation and Eisley's salary is not counted in the team's salary when computing the amount of tax.

But his salary continues to count against the salary cap.

I guess they should re-name it the Jerome Williams rule.

Actually if they have to cut payroll, Jones makes the most sense even with his minimal salary as House and JJAX is on a one year deal and everyone else is pretty indispensible....

Not that i want to trade Jones at all, but I would rather keep both Barbosa and Diaw and its just not possible to have 10 4+ year players who are all good players and be under the salary cap, so someone would have to get dealt and Bobo and LB would still give us two of the best weapons off the bench....

So the Suns would have to find a young player who still has a few years on his rookie contract before they would have to make a decsion on him and/or someone dropped off the books....

A package of Jim Jackson, Jr, and a draft pick or two is potentially attractive to teams in need of shooters (and unlike the Suns that is the majority of the league)

So some guys who would fit that criteria whose teams may trade them if they feel Jackson and Jones could help this year.....

JR Smith
Andre Igoudola
Ariza or Robinson
Graham or Villenueva
Livingston (would never happen)
Diogu (also appears untouchable)
Tony Allen and/or Delonte West (intriguing for sure)

Of all of them, if the sixers decide to keep AI and go for it all the next couple years (which has no chance of happening but all GM's are somewhat bias to their teams prospects) Igoudala makes the most sense. But i know they love him there so i wouldnt hold your breath...

Now that New Orleans is a playoff team, jackson might go there and i think the JR Smith deal would then be the most likely.....

There would have to be a minimal cap throw in for each of those players however

Are you serious? Andre Igoudala? If Diogu appeas untouchable, then Igoudala is definitely untouchable--he's like Richard Jefferson on the Nets--we could never get either player for Jim Jackson and James Jones, with or without a late round draft pick.

there were some trade rumors about iguodala earlier this year, so he may be not literally be untouchable

and 1st round draft picks do cost a few mil. per year, too

I thought the announcer said Raja leads the most 3pt made this season? I could be wrong but I thought I heard that.

I probably want to keep James Jones only because JJ is younger and longer. And almost any player with some shooting ability can shoot well on this team. Eddie House can give us some quick buckets but the trade-off is also pretty nasty. I don't think D'Antoni plays James Jones enough though. Maybe JJ keeps getting injured... well, if he is injury prone, keep House!

I also heard he's close to having a cure for cancer.

But if the Suns can't afford Jones in the long term, how could they afford the better player (like Iguodala) that they'd get back in a trade?

I heard the announcer say that too, but Ray Allen leads the NBA in makes by a wide margin. Raja Bell is #2.

Raja in 2nd in total makes behind Allen, and Barbosa is 1st in 3-point %.

Exactly.

Plus we don't necessarily have to under the salary cap, just the luxury tax threshold.

The Suns are in a very good position player and cap wise right now. Clearly they want to trade Jackson but I don't see why would they move anyone from the regular rotation before Amare returns.
Unless they can get another C/PF that fits their system which is not very likely.

Hey, now this is a completely different animal. As much as I like Jones, if Philly calls and offers Iggy for Jones, Jackson and one of our three firsts, I'd pull the trigger without thinking twice about it.

I also like the ideas of Digou, Smith or Villenueva.

I think the Suns would do it also. The only thing is, the other teams would never do it.

TNT announcers said Bell led last night. That was my source

They were mistaken. Ray Allen has made about 50 more 3 pointers than Raja.

Barbosa actually leads the NBA in 3 point percentage, at .468 (37 for 79).

As for whose MADE more, Allen has 172, to Bell's 124. However, Allen has also attempted a wide margin more (437 to 285).

If the Suns are looking to keep Raja Bell, plus both Diaw and Barbosa, money is going to be very tight. The salaries of the top seven players by themselves will be scraping against the luxury tax barrier.

House is gone after this year, and Brian Grant after another year--James Jones is the only lower-tier guy left making more than the minimum. The Suns might have to choose between keeping JR and keeping two of their draft picks--if that's the case, then shipping JR in a year or two makes a lot of sense.

IMO the only way the Suns trade JR right now would be for an immediate upgrade. They won't feel any real salary pressure for another year and a half, and they'll have plenty of opportunities to move JR this summer if they need to.
