Interesting that LD is the only Tackle on that list. Makes it just that much more important to keep him.

with the salary cap scheduled to rise to an all-time high $109 million, and several franchises with more than $30 million in available spending room, the 2007 market once again figures to be an active one. Just another reason to TAG LD...

I would like to see the Cards get alot of help on the D side.

2 corners(Clements plz), an OLB.

Also need the best FB available. New PUNTER!

I think we only need one CB. Rolle either needs to be moved to FS or cut, period. But Green, on the other hand, will be fine with his speed in the right scheme....

Sign- LB L.Briggs
Sign- BOTH CB's, Samuel & Clements(Green as #3)
Move Rolle to FS
Resign LD
Sign or draft an OT to compete for starting job.
Draft a returnman in middle rounds.
REPLACE Scott Player!
Make Denny GM for his last year.
Hire new HC.

We don't have that much money to tag/resign Davis, and to sign Briggs and both corners in free agency. We have a ton of room, but not that much.

If you mean the Bidwills wont spend the money your right. But we have more than enough cap room to sign them all.

You forget Davis is making 9mill THIS year, so tagging him will only cost us afew more million.

Not to mention guys like Ross can be cut since they are making big money & sitting on the bench.

Correct me if I am wrong, but Davis is an unrestrict FA. Yes it will only cost a few more million than last year, but it will cost 10 or 11 million toward the cap space that we already have. Tagging him won't cost us only a few more million, because we wont be paying him anything at all next year if we dont. Tagging him will cost the entire 11-12 million of our 30+ million cap space. 20 million may not be enough to sign those other 3 from your list.

Again, someone correct me if I am wrong on this.

Your right, I forgot his number will be off the books after this year.

But I also thought we were more like 40-50 Mill under the cap?

You are correct.

Even after franchising Davis we will still have 30+ Mill of cap space.

But that isnt the point Even if we only had 20 Mill we could still sign those FA mentioned and still have enough money left over. Its all about if we have money to shell out for the signing bonuses to make the contract layouts that would work under that 20 Mill.

If we used creative contract signing, I would agree with you. Who knows, it may happen if we bring in a competent GM in here that would do that.

I am not holding my breath though.

Neither am I.

I have a really bad feeling that we are going to be really dissapointed this offseason when it comes to free agency. To little amount of quality players with to much money in the market for us to be competitive in that market IMO.

Which means if we even are able to sign one of those quality FA's I will be giddy becuase it will be really hard to just get that one guy.

Cut Rolle...when essentially he is playing his rookie year......giving up on him now would be a huge mistake.

Hell, if that "one guy" ends up being a GM and a coach I would be giddy.

With better coaching this is a borderline playoff team.

I must be missing some plays but I rarely see Rolle get beat deep. He has received some pass int penalties you would like to see cut down. To say Green is better is a real stretch. Green gets beat more than I would like see underneath and deep. I agree we could use another corner but leave Rolle put.

You are definitely missing plays. Wasn't the first score of the game where Cutler threw the deep bomb against Rolle?

I think it was Macklin.

Rolle got beat deep repeatedly against Oakland. Bryant caught a TD against him in the opener that was called back. Berrian had him beat for a TD on the first play against the Bears but Rex overthrew it. there have been others. There would be more, but when you give a 40 yard cushion, it's hard to get beat deep.

I've read that our cap space for next year is in and around $34.7 M. Assuming the tag figure on BIG would be about $12M, we'd be hard pressed to have $30M left.

Not withstanding this, we could definitely get a Clements (Samuel) or a Briggs (A.Thomas or Cato June), but I don't think we could get two of them.

Influencing my thinking is that we have to re-do Dansby and there are other FA's on our team that we need to address (see Francisco, just to mention one).

Plus, whether or not we like the Bidwill's philosophies regarding having excess cap space heading into a season, they always will.

Yep. I expect 8-10 mil of it will be saved again to resign players. Assuming the $35 mil is correct. 12 mil to Big, and 8 Million left over, leaves us 10 million to work with.

It is not 34.7 Mill. If that is something you saw somewhere then they were assuming that Fitz would get his huge bonus in his contract if he made the pro bowl 2 times his first 3 years, I believe taht was a 5 Mill bonus.. We also gave Rolle his bonus for the 2007 season to him this year utilizing the 10.7 Mill we still had during the season, I believe that was 2.5 Mill. We will have over 40 Mill in cap space.

As for Extending Dansby's contract we have had this discussion many times before. We dont need to use the 2007 cap amount to give him the contract. We can extend him and use 2008 cap space, becuase he is already paid for in the 2007 season. Thats if it will cost all that much in the first place to extend Dansby who has never been to the pro bowl and is working through a supposed career threatening toe injury. That does not sound like a guy who will get a huge contract. Above average yes but not a ton.

As for Fransisco why would he cost all that much. He is a EFA who will cost less then 400K. And when that contract is up he will be a RFA. And depending on how much we give him then will depend on if he is ever a starting FS or just a special teamer his whole career.
