He said the team is kicking around a few names but the three to watch for right now are
Norm Chow OC Tenn.
Clancy Pendergast
Jim Cogwell IND Asst. Coach

Uh-Oh I want to see some more names. I hope not Clancy.

If ,as one analyst claimed, the firing of Dennis Green was done to appease the fans then hiring Clancy Pendergast would kill any "good will" they gained with the fans by firing Green. I don't know what I think about Norm Chow seeing as he has never been a head coach in a big time place.

I might be okay with Pendergast as HC. It depends on who they bring in as DC. Pendergast wasn't all bad--some of his schemes were fairly imaginative and effective. ...others weren't.

We will continue to lose with these guys. Clancy is just like Mac: too
conservative to win at this level; don't know much about the Indy asst; Chow
knows x's & o's but has never been a head coach at any level. What the hell
hire Chow, I know about as much as the Bidwill's.

Norm Chow OC Tenn.

Not terrible but there are better out there, starting with Mora and Whisenhunt. I was early on leaning towards Chow but not as enamored with him as I once was.

Clancy Pendergast

:barf: :bang: :barf:

Jim Cogwell IND Asst. Coach

Caldwell. Presumably talking to him because of his coaching of Manning, being the QB coach there? Interesting. A detail oriented guy and Dungy-like. Definitely the cream of the crop amongst these names.

He is the Assistant Coach as well as QBs coach, and was who coached the team after Dungy's son's suicide.

sorry, yes, I was aware that he was assistant HC, but yeah I just put QB coach

who would he hire for the defense? Certainly not anybody from that staff

Loney should be considered to stay by any of the HC
Kruzec's fate may depend on whether the new HC is offensive minded or not

As for the candidates, don't worry just yet. These are just the coaches that THEY HAVE PERMISSION TO SPEAK TO. With the new rules regarding the hiring of coaches from other teams, it can be a lengthy and sometimes complicated process.

BTW Graves also mentioned Rivera in the press conference

Can they even talk to Rivera until the Bears season is over?

They can if the Bears give permission. I'm think they've already done so since they brought him out publicly.

We need a coach that can win even if the owner isnt willing to invest like the other playoff teams do.

Caldwell the best of the lot

Chow. Sixty one and never a head coach
Rivera. Never a head coach and look at what a number of teams have done to the Bears defense thru out the season. Don't know why he gets so much love.
Sherman. All I remember about this guy is hearing what a tool he was. That will not work in todays NFL.

Jim Caldwell is clearly the best candidiate of this batch. Not only would he "take care of Leinart" as Edge suggested, but he would probably be a popular chioce for Edge too. Though you would think this didn't have to be mentioned , Caldwell is black. Most important, is he comes from a winning background from todays NFL, not 5 years ago. Although the Colts have never made it to the summit , I think most of us would be happy if we won the division and went to the playoffs for the next 5 years in a row.
I also think that not all of the coaches retained today will be with us by March 1st. The one thing we don't know is how much Green strapped his coaches. What I mean by that is we all bitched about how our corners played 10 yards off the LOS. Was that Pendy , or was he just doing what Green wanted? If it was Pendy's idea, then he needs to go.

5th Ranked Yards
3rd Ranked Scoring

And thats with the Bears Offense not helping them out one bit being ranked 5th in the league in giveaways giving opposing O's great field position multiple times.

I think he has done a hell of a job working past the O's transgressions.

Plus look at all the injuries he's had to deal with. I'm on board for Rivera or Caldwell even though i don't know much about him.I also like Russ Grimm.

Grimm will likely be replace Cowher as the Steelers HC.

Heimerdinger is intriguing but I think Atlanta has a better chance to get him then we do (he's from there, coached there, etc)

Caldwell? I could coach Manning. Would love to see Rivera come here.

I agree, not like Caldwell had to do much, they got a QB with more football smarts than some coaches in this league.
