Did you catch it on DVD? If so are there any decent extras? I watched it in the theater and just loved it.

There are no extras. Like Panic Room, the only release is a Superbit release.

Adaptation was brilliant! It was a strong quirky comedic drama until the very end when it became an absurdity, which is part of its charm.

Much better than Being John Malkovich.

Glad I am not the only one.

I tried to watch it the other night - made it through about half of it.

Um, why? You're so quick to put it down, yet you don't say why.

1) Nicolas Cage - can't stand him
2) Didn't like the way the movie flowed.
3) Couldn't stand the Cage "thoughts"
4) Basically, just didn't like it.

BUMP!

Just saw it last night. Absolutely incredible. Best film Ive seen a couple years.

Now, I wanna talk about it. Theres a few fans out there. WHo wants to dissect this. I sat around and thought about this for hours after it was over.

couple questions:

Is there really a brother? In real life? As the credits finished, there was an "in loving memory" notice to his brother. There was a writing credit for Adaptation, and for "The Three" with a release set for 2004 for it. I thought that was all a bunch of hooey.

Also, I absolutely LOVE the way how in the beginning it was obviously our protaginist as the writer, but when he calls his brother to ask for help and his brother flies to NYC, the story TOTALLY changes into the farce that CHaplin describes. DId you uys get the fact that this is the point in whcih the brother started writing the screenplay? The whole thing changed into an action edvanture piece with every cliche imagineable. Hilarious.

This film is a total mindf*ck.

Absolutely brilliant. Did y'all find the Adaptation message line phone number hidden on the menu screen? Called it. They have a VM set up to take messages on your feelings about the film.

Man. I need to do some research, becasue I get the distinct feeling that the film was an accurate portrayl of the wirter trying to write the film, until the point the brother came oin to help finish the script. I need to find out more.

"you kind of make fun of me in this."

HILARIOUS.

Spike Jonze can sure as hell direct, too.

Charlie Kaufman HAS to be the best screenwriter of our day. Has to be.

Charlie Kaufman does NOT have a brother in real life.

I loved that! If you think about it, it was foreshadowed so much through the workings of his brother's script. It actually makes a twisted kind of sense if you think about it.

I did not. But I've only seen it once and have to check it out again.

The movie actually kinda follows the writing process pretty well. For those that know, the book that he's trying to adapt really is impossible to adapt--and like all writers, it's really easy to just say, "screw it" and write a no-brainer action pic instead to try to fight the writer's block--which he had most of the movie.

Amen brother.

The foreshadowing is only foreseeable in retrospect, too, which is an oxymoron on the surface. Love it.

So, good to know there's no brother in real life. Maybe the whole subplot of the brother's screenplay with the schizophrenic storyline and the brother himself represented the schizophrenic nature of writing and how he would have LOVED to just break out of the artistic endeavor he was fumbing with and just thrwo down an action pic. Just incredible.

Im stupified.

SO, I wonder if there IS a move called The 3 coming out in 04 under Kaufman's "brother's" name.

That would be great.

The flashback scenes to filming Malcovich was a nice touch, too.

Whilst not being a huge Nic Cage fan I really loved this film. He really pulled off an amazing performance(s).

Some disturbingly realistic directing and camera work in this film. That scene in which the car is t-boned when reversing was one of the most intense and graphic experiences i've even witnessed in a movie theatre. Chris Cooper was brillant. Movies based around the film industry are so often hit and miss.

I liked this one. Such a smart concept. Charlie Kaufman is pretty amazing. And for a guy who hangs out with the JackAss crew Spike Jonze has a brillant mind and vision... I like JackAss the movie too :)

Did "The Three" ever get released? I couldn't find it anywhere.

Totally agree about Kaufman, one of the best.
