Adema Desperate To Ditch The Nu Metal Label

Perhaps you remember Adema, that nu metal band who toured a lot with Korn and Godsmack a few years back. During their lengthy break, they've been mighty busy.

The band have reinvented themselves with a new singer, label and management to try to make a fresh start and leave their past troubles behind. Drummer Kris Kohls says that ever since they picked up singer Luke Caraciolli, the band have felt better.

"Our last record was called Unstable for a reason. There were two guys in the band that didn’t even speak — Mikey and Marky. For a year and a half those guys didn’t even talk to one another and Mikey finally left because he couldn’t stand Marky. We just had a lot of drama in the past and ever since Luke has been in the band there’s no drama, so that feels good," Kohls said.

Finding Caraciolli and putting the new album together wasn't exactly the easiest process for Adema. They went into the studio before they’d found the singer and only started auditioning once all the instrumental parts were recorded. They recorded the entire process and are planning on putting out a DVD documenting their search for a singer, which Kohls compares to the movie Rock Star.

Now that Adema are whole again they are excited to get back out into the scene. They will be playing their first live show with the new singer in Iraq for the troops. Kohls said that since Caraciolli’s an ex-marine they thought it was important for them to do.

With their new album Planets coming out soon they feel that they have something to prove. Kohls believes that their new record’s some of the best work they’ve ever done, but they don’t want to fall back into the same genre that they were before.

"We always got pegged in that nu metal genre, because our singer was basically trying to emulate the main guy who invented nu metal. We never considered ourselves a nu metal band, we were just kind of stuck in that mould mainly because of our old singer," Kohls said. "At the end of the day we’re a rock band and we wanted to get out of that nu metal mould and show people that we’re not just a cookie-cutter nu-metal band. We’re a rock band.

"I know that this record is our best record. It blows away the first two records. It’s the sound we’ve always wanted to capture and have and this is the direction we’re going to continue to go in the future. I think it’s just evolved into a better Adema."

I've only ever heard "Giving Into You". Decent song for a while, but got played out pretty quick.

Translation: Nu Metal isn't trendy anymore so we're changing to what is.

bingo. You hit the nail on head, jerryp. It's marketing.

Oh, and they suck. Suck bad. I don't usually use that term when talking about music or a band or whatnot, but that group is everything I dispise in rock.
