Thankfully we avoided starting the season 0 & 2, AT HOME. A feat that once accomplished, no other team has ever then gone on to play n the Super Bowl... And today we did what we needed to do - we got a W.
However, I am certain that Keim, BA and his staff are not at all resting comfy at this moment. While there are some positives to feel good about, there are plenty of areas worthy of concern, such as:

- NO PASS RUSH... at all!

- No rush attack... In two games, aside from a herculean effort on the one run against the Pats, DJ hasn't been able to get going. Supposedly, run blocking was to be the strength of our revamped o-line. However, as is the case where our revamped d-line was supposed to generate an improved pass rush, our o-line hasn't produced in the run game...

- Special Teams... Catman is an issue. Yes, Canaday has proven incapable thus far at delivering a consistent snap, Catman also contributes his own inconsistencies... And don't get me started on Butler (though he was better today). And our return teams are non-existent... Ellington today simply played catch as he refused to run a return back.

There are other issues that are perhaps lesser in terms of magnitude, such as John Brown who just doesn't seem right, Badger who played better today but is clearly far less than 100%, Secondary (aside from PP21) as SS and cornerback opposite of PP21 are weak at best (today Winston had more to do with our defensive success than did our defense).

I guess what frustrates me is that I can't shake the feeling that this team feels more like a work in progress than I expected it would. I mean, it's not like we dumped the roster last season and shifted into rebuild mode! I just hope that since there clearly is much work to accomplish, that progress is indeed what we see. Next week we're heading into a hornets nest as a pissed off 0 & 2 Bills team will be out for blood. And though the temps will be fine, who knows what the conditions will be like (Rain? Wind?). If there was ever a time to rely on a highly productive run game, it would be next Sunday. And yet, we haven't run the ball worth a damn thus far...

Here's to PROGRESS!!

Our pass rush wasn't superb, but we sacked Winston twice & forced him to rush some throws... leading to INTs.

Our rushing wasn't great today, but we ran for 101 yards on 29 carries (3.5ypc)... which is decent & kept the defense honest.

Catanzaro missed an extra point, but the snaps were bad all day long. We should be talking about how many kicks he made when the snaps were bad instead of the 1 he missed.

Through two games:

The good: Palmer is playing well. Fitz is playing great. DJ is playing great.

The okay: the o line has pass blocked well, but run blocking hasn't been good. Floyd? John Brown?

The bad: Pass rush has been slow. Pass Coverage has been inconsistent.

Bottom line: This is a QB league- and if you can protect the QB and he is playing well, you will be in every game.

I watched the game where Martin going down was huge for our defense. The game where Winston had all day in the pocket but decided to throw it to the guys in red, even though his own team mates were wide open. The game where Winston's fumble was caused by his own RB and not by someone wearing red.
Much needed win... a "must" win if there ever was such a thing for Game 2! But that doesn't mean our defense played at a level this blowout might suggest...not even close.

Yeah our pressure had nothing to do with Winston rushing throws or throwing picks lol give me a break! Many many of their throws were very short throws to get the ball out quick, how many deep passes did they complete? The defense played well against a team everyone was saying could easily beat us. We beat down a pretty good team with huge receivers, and looked like a true contender and people want to complain about pass rush? I'm sure Winston in his comments about us being a damn good defense really meant I just suck and threw it to cardinals on purpose lol! And obviously his teammates were not Wide Open as you say since they had very few big plays.

You must have accidentally we watched the Pats game a second time. This was a whole different team in every aspect compared to last week. I will concede Winston and Bucs secondary didn't play great and they had it would probably be more like 21 to 33 but that would have still been a solid and decisive win.

No team ever plays a perfect game but you really couldn't ask for much more in any given week. Yes any aspect of the team could regress but that will be as a result of coaching and practice and effort and not because of pure inability. Williams was a huge liability and that looks shored up for the moment. ST looks like they finally got their poo together. Offense put up 47 points.

Trust me I think there is room for personnel improvements at several positions, Butler being one them, but there wasn't a lot to really complain about today. Playing like we did today, even against teams playing up to their capability, and home field to start the playoffs is a reasonable expectation and then we go from there.

+1 This is how I saw it also.

Good game for the D. But room to improve for sure. Lack of a pass rush will show more with an accurate passer. Way too much time in the pocket for the QB to get comfortable. JW was off today to help us out.
