IMO, what this statement really does is to open up the three way trade between Min, Bos, and Phx. Boston can now obtain Marion and explain to their fan base Garnett was not interested in coming here but we were able to obtain an all star caliber player in Marion while keeping our core together, esp Jefferson. It allows Min to obtain a ton of pics, future cap relief, and a top pick in next years draft as they will suck this year, and Mchale is most likely on his way out so he can take the fall, and the next GM will be stocked with Cap room and draft picks. The Suns get the piece they need to be a favorite for an NBA championship of the next three years... Everybody wins in this deal in my opinion. Boston can win the East, the Suns are the favorites, and Minnesota has bright future...

An even better spin is that they werent interested in garnett to begin with and it was just rumors, and that they are loyal to boston and would never trade their fan favorite Jefferson away.

Another possible rumor that Mchale is gone soon too.

from twoondog at boxden:
look all i know is that the paperwork was started....to be honest i dont even know what that means in terms of when the trade will be announced...as far as kevin mchale goes. from what i understand from a wolves insider is that mchale is gonna step down and be replaced by fred hoiberg in the near future so mchale doesnt give a fu*k about what he says in the media or what the perception of him is, its already sh*t to begin with. by havin mchale handle all the kg questions the slate will be wiped clean when hoiberg takes over and people wont attach kg gettin traded with hoiberg.......

as far as the suns tryin to get other teams involved i think your exacly right about this...but the definate is that kg is goin to phx...

This is great news. That means that increases the likely hood of KG coming to the Suns IMO.

I've got a very bad feeling KG is going to the Lakers. This is the one place I do not want him to go. Please, please, let me be wrong. Please Steve Kerr, show us your "A" game and at least find a way to block it. Find another three way deal if necessary.

Before the Suns let KG go to LA they would probably offer just that little bit more than LA...
I know we have a lot more trading pieces than LA.

I have a good feeling we are getting him. Who would you rather play with: A.)Steve Nash or B.)Kobe Bryant.

I think it would be a beautiful ending for two long careers for both Nash and Garnett.

Go Suns!

Same thing was posted by SI a couple days before...

McHale will take the blame for trading KG so that Hoiberg can step in without hard decisions to make especially trading their beloved KG away for rebuilding pieces..

don't jinx this.......hahaha

I get that feeling too, but I really do think the Suns have the best there is to offer. If the Wolves have bought into the Bynum hype, then we might be screwed.

I don't know what I'll do if I have to see KG in a Lakers uni. The thought makes me sick.

If he goes to the Lakers its because the Suns weren't willing to give up as much as we all think to get him.

Hoiberg replacing McHale has been assumed for a while. Speculation is that the team wants McHale to take the fall so that Hoiberg doesn't have to step into this when he takes over.

Yeah I mean even if Odom was as good as Marion , you can't overlook past baggage of Odom and the fact that he is consitently injured and banged up, did you see how he ended this season? He was all wrapped up in ice (shoulders, arms, legs, knees, everything)...

The package I'd worry about when aquiring Odom would be the fact he is still facing a 1 year ban if he fails another drug test. It hasn't been an issue for Mami or LAL but if he were sent to another rebuilding team like when he was with the Clippers who knows how he'll take it. Though maybe he's matured over the years an no longer has a problem (getting caught) using drugs.

Hey there's nothing to do in Minnesota in January that doesn't involve a bong.

true and if he goes to a team he doesn't want to you know he will start hitting up the pipe or whatever it is that he does to deal with the new team.

Opt out of what? He (Marion)can opt out and become a FA after next year, but he doesn't have any power to deny a trade.

No way does KG go to the Lakers. They have no pieces that MT would want. Just because KG doesn't want to go to the Celtics doesn't mean the 3 way trade scenario is dead either.

In fact, I think either the 3 way or a direct deal to Phoenix is now the most likely scenario. This is great news IMO. This eliminates one of the bids so to speak for KG.

Marion will never have the kind of leverage KG does--his contract is value-neutral at best, and he'll never get another one that size without a S&T.

It also won't require Al Jefferson to get him.

If this trade dies because Marion is threatening to leave Boston high and dry, you can forget about the Suns' chemistry next season. I guarantee that Nash, Stoudemire, and everyone else are following all of this very carefully.

Source?

Neither does Garnett, but you read what I read. No team wants to take a player for one year if they state they are gonna opt out the next year.

If I were marion I would at least give boston a try if I knew I were to be traded. Pierce/Marion/Jefferson/West/Perkins is a SOLID east lineup.

Yes, but this would worry the team trading for him. So in essence he has some default veto.

Not to mention that I don't think anybody makes any trade without an extension for either player unless they want the expiring contract. I just don't think the Opt out will be an issue.

According to Wolves fan their sports radio station is saying that Garnett nixed all Eastern Conference Teams.
