Good News!

And what most of the board expected. Why the hell would KG want to go to Boston?

That would have argueably been a step down from the Wolves as a team and frontoffice.

Here's the nuts and bolts of the article:

"The Boston trade isn't happening," Miller told Sheridan on Thursday. "If a trade were to happen, that's not a destination that we're interested in pursuing."

Maybe Phoenix media will pick up on it more now that it seems clear that Garnett will try to block any trade to a team that doesn't fit the criteria. Phoenix would be the OBVIOUS choice for KG personally.

Yay! That direct trade made no sense for Boston anyway. They would not have a title shot with two legitimate stars and 12 pieces of trash. (Not that they have a chance without making the trade but their future would be brighter.) The Cavs may only have one superstar, but the role players around him are not as bad (for the East) as people say. They are a decent team.

glad to be proven wrong on that one!

now let's see if the Lakers offer up Odom and Bynum for KG. I know he'd have no problem going there, but is Marion/Barbs and a pick good enough to out bid them? Would we even offer that much?

nice to see KG drop the hammer on boston though. Maybe now we can really get going on a 3-team trade that still leaves us with Barbs and has Minny getting cap relief, a couple lotto picks this year and ATL's pick next year. That deal would seemingly make too much sense though.

but the plot thickens and as does the amount of time that I'll waste here!

I think KG wants to play alongside Nash.

Nash and Garnett are friends apparently.

At least I heard so and there are pics from Nash hanging out with KG and McCants at the allstar game. (McCants by the way is apparently a close friend of Amare)

I guarantee you that they will.

The Suns might have McHale's personal preference in that horse race, though. :)

true, but KG has leverage here also. He has a home in LA, is friends with Kobe and it's debatable what deal is better. Personally, if I'm the Wolves, I look at starting over with a guy who can be somewhat of a playmaker in Odom and a young C with a lot of potential over a 6'7 PF who can opt-out after one year and a small combo guard.

i'll throw up in my mouth if KG goes to the Lakers instead of us.

This is the part that caught my eye. What's happening in 2 days?

Asked where Garnett would prefer to be dealt, Miller replied: "Too early. Ask me in two days."

I think I would be sick if the Lakers got that deal done.....

KG + Kobe... ugh.....:barf:

The suns need to make the trade if for nothing else, you don't want to see KG with Kobe in L.A......

How is KG-Bryant-trash any better than KG-Pierce-trash? I know that Bryant is a better talent than Pierce, but not by a huge amount and the supporting cast in LA would arguably be weaker than in BOS....

KG is essentially brokering a deal to Phoenix. I love this guy. Make it happen Kerr!

Barbosa, Matrix and ATL 08 is as good a package as they are going to get unless they have a overinflated opinion of Bynum...

And I say the Wolves would be more interested in getting the SF who brings energy and consistency every night over a guy who's never been consistent and has recently been unable to stay healthy, and a young guy that's shown all-star potential over a guy who is still years away from being a solid contributor.

I'd say it would be a wash. The Lakers would win about 50 and lose in the second round rather than the first.

I don't know, I just know KG is friends with Nash as well if that matters any and probably with Amare as well.

The Wolves would have less interest in Odom than Marion in my opinion.

The Lakers don't have the quality of picks to trade that Phoenix has, and even if they offered Odom plus Bynum I would think that Marion and Barbosa is better value.

Also Kevin Garnett isn't the type of player that craves the limelight of LA or the Lakers. Never heard anything about him having an ego or anything, he is probably happy to not be in a market like LA. That must not be true, but I think it isn't unlikely.

Especially with the whole Kobe drama going on, the Lakers don't look like a desriable destination for anyone right now.

Odom is worth less than Marion to the Wolves--they wouldn't want either player to actually play for them, and Odom is less tradeable because of his rep. I couldn't tell you how they rate Bynum, though.

The Lakers do have an advantage over the Suns, which is that they don't have to worry about contending after the deal is over: all they're looking to do is make enough progress to shut Kobe up for another year. The Suns won't want to drop Barbosa into a package because they don't have the time necessary to train a replacement, but the Lakers will probably offer everybody on their roster besides Kobe.

Still, the Suns seem to have a Marion destination set up in Boston, and I wouldn't put it beyond McHale to prefer helping them over Kobe and Phil Jackson. Also, there's no guarantee KG likes the idea of playing for the Lakers, either.

how is going to the lakers any better than going to the celtics?

a) KG's already got a house there and is friends with Kobe b) they have the most talented player in basketball... c) even with a slew of injuries, the Lakers still managed to win 42 games in the West as opposed to the Celts who couldn't even sniff the playoffs in the East... d) Phil Jackson e) they're the Lakers - stuff just always seems to work out for them darnit!

It really makes me wish the Lakers and Pacers pulled the trigger on the JO deal, and then there would be no doubt whatsoever in my mind that the Suns would be his #1 choice.
