Only my thoughts but I think a repair is likely to take more time to heal thus the reason Williams will be out longer. Again, just a guess.
That was my understanding too. I had about 50% of my medial removed and was 100% weight bearing 2wks post-op. It's amazing what happens to the joint/nerves/muscles when they're not used for that period of time.

I still wish they'd find a home for Chandler someplace and see if that made a positive impact on Len. It may be too late but people do react differently when they are being depended on and with Williams out, Len becomes the de facto starter. I certainly wouldn't give odds that it would happen but I think there is a chance...
Chandler better not be a starter this year. It makes no sense based upon the future, and he is not even as effective in the present.

I can only imagine although I have other joint issues. Physical rehab seems to be a growing treatment after surgery.

Maybe there is something to that.

It definitely has to be a repair for Williams to be out that long. I just went through a meniscectomy earlier this year where they cut out the torn part of the meniscus and I was back out on the courts after a little over 6 weeks of physical therapy. I feel as good as new.

For mine, it was just two small incisions in the knee and I could actually walk on it later the same day after surgery.

As effective as who? Len? He blows Len out of the water and should unquestionably start over him.

You're referring to attitude. In Len's case, don'tcha think it's a question of skill potential as well?

As I've been told many times, the days of the big, lumbering Center are over.

I think Len has had more than enough time to reach his potential. He has. And it's not good.

Get well soon, sauce.

He's already the best (male) cheerleader though. Hope he gets a lot to smile about!

Chriss, maybe Bender, Sauce when he is back. . . . Len might even do OK if he had a consistent role.

Chandler is declining. His defense is very poor lately. Teams die when they commit too long to aging players. Its a tease. They have spurts of their former glory, but it does not last. Hear that Cards.

I do think there is a lack of focus with Len. That's why sometimes he looks somewhat good...then not. It's been that way his whole career back to his college days...he looks good...he disappears..looks good...does something stupid...

Yeah his skill level should be better... especially with his shot.

BC you have come a long way as well as I in regard to thinking about centers.

However, I still think players such as Nurkic, Gobert, Jokic would be awesome in a Suns uniform.

Maybe even Cousins.

Aw, c'mon now. Just when I finally stepped away from the concept of vintage Centers. :slap:

As long as we have a strong rebounder (not just an opportunity rebounder like Marion was from the Small Forward position) in the front court, I'll be happy.

Those guys are not lumbering though, especially not Nurkic and Jokic, those 2 can pass almost as well as guards. I should say... the days of the low skill center who is on the court almost entirely because of his measurables, are over. These bigs who can pass and stretch the floor are revolutionizing the game, and making guys like Len extinct.

@BC867 is on the right path! Don't lead him astray! Height for the sake of height is dead!

I agree. The center position has changed over the years. Players that have all the ingredients are hard to find. The game has changed.

Steve Kerr has an interesting view of the center position. He thinks there are no power forwards anymore, either centers or small forwards.

"The other thing that hurts all the centers is there's no four-man anymore," Kerr added. "David West used to be a four, now he's a five. Looney -- ten years ago would have been a four. Now he's a five.

"So as a result, we end up with six centers on a roster ... now you're either a five or you're a three. The four position has almost been eliminated from the NBA.

"Unless you're Draymond Green and you just play whatever the hell position you want to call it."

So the Suns where ahead of the game when they had Alvin Adams all those years.
There is more to it than that. The driving force behind the rules' changes that has freed up guards etc was . . .

Jerry Colangelo. Its no coincidence.

The reason players that used to be PF's are now Centers is because the traditional Center role has changed. I guess he's just looking at it from a different angle and I understand but I don't think PF's have gone away, the more traditional PF's are Centers now because of how the league changed. You can still play 2 PF's together, and label one of them a Center. I guess Kerr is just looking at it as there are now just forwards in general rather than labeling Small Forwards and Power Forwards.

I've thought about twelve things to type about our 212 pounder playing Center from the top of the key like a Guard . . . but I'm just going to grin.

I prefer to look at it your way as well. Generally speaking, PFs are more mobile than centers so if a PF switches to the center position, the team can upgrade it's athleticism upfront.

Kerr might be looking at the center position from a defensive and rebounding aspect. If a team has a mobile athletic center who can defend and rebound upfront, this allows the Warriors to go smaller with the rest of their lineup. Of course Draymond Greene is in his own separate category. And Pachulia is more old school.

I think current lineups in the league have changed to have a PG, 3 Wings, and a Center. There isn't really a front court and backcourt anymore. A lot of teams run their offense through Point Forwards of sorts, some aren't necessarily good playmakers or passers but they're the one who sets the offense at the top of the key and bring the ball up a lot of times. Guys like Lebron, Durant, Paul George, Melo, Antetokounmpo, Kawhi, Jimmy Butler, Hayward.

Today's NBA teams have PG's run the offense, whether they drive and dish or just find cutting players, they control the offense and need to be able to hit their FT's at a high rate and shoot well from 3. Then they have Centers anchor the defense as a rim protector, rebounder, and the player who calls out switches because they're usually deepest on the court and can see everyone.
