Call me intrigued. This guy was not on my radar. I have been watching the highlights of his 40 pt game. He is a seven footer. He moves very well with very good footwork. He is an excellent shooter from the three but also scores from everywhere including back to the basket. He is a very good shot blocker.

Seems to be a poor rebounder. Center size but plays more like a sf.

Seems like a stretch 4 with little more diversity than Frye. Dirk style game. It will be interesting to watch him in summer league.

Definitely not a BC type of player.

I saw some piece on espn or somewhere on this guy like 2 years ago. He's been in the back of my mind since and when they announced the pick I remembered right away who he was. I don't recall much of why he was the focus of this piece? I seem to recall that he had this huge growth spurt mid way through his high school years and grew about a foot and didn't start playing until he was like 16 or 17, but after his growth the high school coach got him to play basketball. He had made huge strides in just a few years. Anyway, not sure why this is important? :)

Is he better or worse than Bargnani?

Just take a look at some of the Youtube video on him. He was voted defensive player of the year in his mid major conference.

Honestly, he looks like a better version of Channing Frye. If he could add some muscle there is a lot of potential.

He might make this team.

Yeah, I read he went from 6'3 to 7'1 in under 2 years. I was surprised how fluid he looked in his highlights. Sounds like McDonough anticipates he'll play in the Summer League and then sign over seas with the Suns retaining his rights.

Alec Brown's highlights on Youtube are amazing. He can shoot it, is agile for a 7 footer, can put the ball on the floor, and can block shots too ? ...

It kind of is a classic example of how "highlights" are deceiving though. Obviously he can't be that "special" if he was a 2nd round pick.

I mean watch the above highlights !!! ... If you were strictly judging prospects off highlight tapes, he would be a Top-5 pick ...

How does the developemental league work? Do the guys have to have a roster spot if the team wants to retain the rights to them? It could be three years before the coaches can tell if he has decent chance at making it in the league...

He intrigues me a bit as well but I think its a big understatement to say that he's a poor rebounder.

You don't look at highlights and judge shooting efficiency, you can look at stats for that . But you can see form, ability to move, timing, etc. As far as just assuming that there is something wrong because he is a second round pick, that is not good thinking. This is a draft that had alot of moving parts. Its easy to miss a guy from a mid-major without alot of exposure.

I am not counting on anything, but there is alot of intrigue with this guy.

I think he could turn out to be a rich man's Frye.

The 7'1" is good but he would have to bulk up from 235. In the videos he glides well. I didn't see any back to the basket moves. And it didn't show him playing defense against a low post player.

Yup, he fits the profile. ;)

Brown played against really bad competition. When I say really bad, I mean awful. That's how all draft sites and writers are amazed at how he was such a bad rebounder.

Apparently Brown was one of the very few guys who were even taller than 6'9 in his conference.

Alec had an opportunity in his non conference schedule to play Wisconsin and go head to head versus Frank Kaminsky and played arguably his worst game of the season fouling out in 18 minutes, with 5 turnovers and scoring only 2 points ... Unfortunately for Alec, the trend of poor games with foul trouble against top opponents continued throughout the season as he failed to reach double figures versus Virginia, Wisconsin Milwaukee, and Belmont ...

If he gets stronger, he might make it like Frye did. But he's only 230 lbs and that won't cut it imo.

He will be assigned to our D-League team. If he can get up to 250lbs in the next 2 years he might be able to play minutes at the center position in the NBA.

I sure hope we can use the D-League like that--like baseball. Put young players who need development there, let them get good coaching and game experience. The whole NBA would be better for it.

He will take up a roster spot on the Suns if they tried that, I don't see that as an option. McD stated they hope to have him on the summer league team and then have him sign overseas for a couple years as they retain his rights.

THAT'S the rule that they need to change. An NBA team should be able to maintain the rights to a player that they assign to D-League without sacrificing a roster spot.

In essense that is what the Suns are doing with Bogdon. McD said definitively in his post draft interview that Bogdon is going to play in Europe for one or two more years. Its really what you have to do when you have so many young players to develop.

I was afraid that was the rule. I can understand it but given the age at which guys get drafted it would make sense to relax it a bit - allow 1 player per team and a maximum of 1 year for any player.

Your point is well taken, however, I'm not sure the players association would agree. Maybe the NBA needs to give each team a couple of extra roster spots.
