PFT has a story on their web site which says Smith is due to make $8.5 million next season. Basically it all becomes guaranteed if he's on the roster on April 1 and he's due a $1 million roster bonus on the third day of the league year.

If he's released, should the Cardinals pursue him?

Well...it is an insult because he's not a very good quarterback. Your stats (which i am acutely aware of) may tell one story, but if you know the QB position and have a good eye for football, you'll see otherwise. He was just benched for a 2nd year guy after one good performance. Plus, they opened up the playbook for the second year guy ; whereas, they pared it down for Smith. This stuff doesn't happen to great or even good QBs.

His Stats lie. He played in a very conservative offense and now he's not playing at all.

"Marginal at best" indicates that he's, at BEST, slightly below average. I completely disagree. Is he a superstar? Nope. Great? Nope. But I'd say he's above average to good. He's been "good" on the niners. Anywhere else and he's probably still above average with the potential to be good depending on the situation.

Not really defending him as I don't think he'd be a massive upgrade over a healthy Kolb. Just think he's a lot better than marginal at best.

No coach can coach him. He is not good enough. Unless you want a Trent Dilfer type to win 7-8 games a year.

And a Super Bowl win. I will take it. I guess people would rather have a 6th pick leading this team.

All Smith has done the past two years is win and protect the ball. He is lights out compared to the Cardinals QBs. If you have a chance at QB like Smith you go after him.

Thinking he's better than what we have and thinking he's a solution are two very different things: but I will say that I wish we had him right now. The fact that we are starting a late-round rookie QB is pretty insane. I was listening to Bill Simmons and Cousin Sal discussing the Rams' handling of the
keep Bradford vs. draft Griffin III debate and just started laughing. I'm not living in envy of the Rams, but oh, to have that problem.
