All-First Team:
Bowen
Bell
Bryant
Duncan
Camby

All-Second Team:
Kidd
Hinrich
Prince
Garnett
Wallace

dont know the All-Third Team....but i would expect Marion to be there. For a guy who was in the running for top defender, this is a pretty big snub again.

That's really very surprising. He finishes fourth in DPOY, but doesn't make either of the first two teams? I'm tempted to suspect the leak is wrong.

Raja Bell on the 1st team? Seriously? No way in hell Heinrich is (should be) on that list.

Raja Bell doesn't deserve to be on the first team and Kobe certainly doesn't deserve to be there. This just goes to show that the All-defensive teams, more than any other award, are based solely on reputation.

The leak wasn't wrong, but I definitely find it surprising that Marion isn't at least on the second team. I like the Hinrich on the second team - he absolutely harassed Dwyane Wade in the first round (yes, I know Wade was hurt).

In any case, congratulations, Raja! At the very least, he takes his defense very seriously and does a commendable job. Worthy of a first-team defense nod? Probably not.

Usually I'd agree, but what about Hinrich? Has he EVER shutdown anyone?

I'm not sure why you're down on Hinrich, he's been an excellent defender all year IMO.

Not really down on him, but I would like to see some stats to backup his ranking here. I have watched about 10 Bulls games this year, and he didn't look like a All 2nd team defender to me. JMHO.

I still can't believe Bryant got put on the 1st team (well, actually I can believe it). He had about as much of a defensive impact this year as Marcus Banks. Non-existent for about 75 games out of the year and played some solid defense for 5 minute stretches in the other 7. He has the ability to be one of the best defenders in the league, but he uses so much energy on offense that he has nothing left on the other end IMO. That's one of the biggest differences between him and Jordan IMO. Jordan could do both all night.

Did a completely different set of people vote on this then those that voted for DPOY?

So Marion got five first-team votes, five second-team votes, and was ignored by the other 19 coaches. (D'Antoni wasn't allowed to vote for him.) Two thirds of opposing coaches in the league didn't think he was one of the four best defenders among forwards. I think Duncan's defense is overrated these days, but it's hard to argue with putting Bowen, Garnett, and Prince ahead of Marion. Those are the breaks, I guess.

I still don't understand how you can finish 3rd is DPOY, and not place in the top 4 of Forwards in the League for one of the top two defensive teams.

BTW, that clothesline Bell put on Kobe sure helped his rep a lot...

DPOY was voted on by the media and all-defensive teams are done by the 30 head coaches. I think Marion was 4th in DPOY voting.

It should also be noted that Bruce Bowen got more votes in this than Marcus Camby who won the DPOY.

Which tells you that at least one of the voting methods are garbage.

Sportswriters vote on DPOY
NBA Coachs vote on All-NBA Teams

Marion is rather overrated, he simply isn't that good defensively, I will trust the coachs on this.

Marion is a "jack of all trades, master of none" defender. He doesn't shut down anyone without help, but he may be the most versatile defender in the NBA. In many games, he'll defend all five positions, and he deserves credit for that. It's his ability to defend bigger guys that, more than anything other than Steve Nash, allows the Suns to play the way they do.

Marion finished 5 votes out of the second team, so if there is a third team he is on it.

Being the 5th ranked defensive forward in the league is no insult and certainly isn't "overrated".
