Nine times out of ten, stories about Marion being underappreciated are actually just another example of him being PROPERLY appreciated.

But this is B.S. Jason Kidd couldn't guard a mailbox! And Bowen has slipped appreciably. Marion belongs on the first team, or at the very worst the second. He's better than Bell IMHO.

Well, I hope he comes out on fire & not defeated for the rest of the playoffs. It will be interesting to see how this affects his game, if at all.

Marion finished 5 votes out of the second team, so if there is a third team he is on it.

Being the 5th ranked defensive forward in the league is no insult and certainly isn't "overrated".

when you are Top 10 in rebounds and Steals, and Top 20 in Blocks, and get 4th in DPOY voting.....well that's being snubbed

find me another guy who comes close to that.

Thats insane, how can he be 4th in DPOY votes but not make an All Defensive team? I think Marion is a much better defender than Bell, he's certainly more versatile at least. He's also a better rebounder, shot blocker, and gets more steals. I'd venture to bet the only defensive statistical category Bell is better in is charges taken, but if that was the criteria they might as well put Nash on a defensive team.

I would agree it is a snub to a certain extent, but you can make strong arguements for all 5 guys that they belong up there.

I am amazed Bell was up there because he has been a worse defender this year than last year.

I'm not sure why you're down on Hinrich, he's been an excellent defender all year IMO.
You're right, he is one of the best perimeter defenders in the game. There aren't really many shut down defensive guards out there that I know of, but Hinrich is a big part of why Wade struggles vs. the Bulls all the time.

Raja deserved some recognition, but Marion was snubbed again. Hopefully it won't hurt the team when he starts complaining, but instead plays with a chip on his shoulder trying to prove people wrong again, just in time for the Spurs. Battier was also a snub.

Kobe and Bowen really just got on the first team on reputation alone.

It's all about reputation, but it's also about style. Marion is not a "physical" defender like Raja is.

We should also start a Marion trade rumor before the Spurs series. That should make him come alive vs. the spurs

When Marion comes into the locker room and everyone is congratulating Bell on being on the first all-defensive team, there will be some tense moments I am thinking!
Marion will be more than a little peeved, but, not at Bell, at the voters!

Right now D'Antoni probably has some choice words for the voters!

This is an atrocity. Apparently, the voters (coaches) only consider one-on-one defense or something and ignore defensive rebounds, steals, and blocks.

Shane Battier is an excellent defender but his stats are dwarfed by Marion, yet he received more votes. Then there's Tayshaun. Here's the side-by-side comparison of defensive stats (leader in bold).

Marion: 7.7 DReb, 1.95 Stl, 1.53 Blk, 2.7 PF
Battier: 3.3 DReb, 0.96 Stl, 0.73 Blk, 2.3 PF
Prince: 3.5 DReb, 0.62 Stl, 067 Blk, 1.41 PF

The other two guys are probably much better on-ball defenders, but the stat disparity is so large that it's ridiculous. Marion doubles up these guys. Stats don't nearly tell the whole story, but they tell a good portion.

Could you imagine (if there was actually an All-NBA Offensive-only Team) a guy not making the team if he was Top 10 in points, Top 10 in offensive rebounds, and Top 20 in assists?

BTW, Battier would be the perfect upgrade of JR. Would love to have him.

Edit: And another thing: Okafor barely getting any votes? Maybe it's a function of being a center, but it seems crazy. He should probably have received more votes than Bowen.

Did you miss the huge, long thread title above this one about the same exact subject. Do people just post threads blindly without looking at the entire board?

I look for it and didn't see it. Guess I was looking for Bell's name.

Funny how it's Western Conference 1st team and Eastern Conference 2nd team (sans Garnett)

Well a ticked off Marion is a good thing. He always busts his a-- for 48 minutes. He mayplay POed so that can be a good thing. He complains a lot but gives his all on the court. Suns fans appreciate him. That is waht counts

There are so many players that coast in this league and rely on natural talent but Marion does bust his a** every single night. He's the human poko stick.

Unfortunalty for many, they'll only realise what Marion truely brings to this team when he is no longer on it... which i hope isn't soon.
