Green can dunk well and proved it in the dunk contest before, it doesn't mean that he's a great player.

Maybe some people will realize now why I said we should absolutely draft Zach Lavine.

He cant shoot, pass or defend, also plays like he might have brain damage. He currently rates as the worst rotation player on one of the worst teams in the league. His splits are horrifying.

But hey, with no one defending him and no rules... and multiple attempts, the guy can dunk a basketball.

Knowing that he has the type of talent required to win the slam dunk contest makes me rethink his grade... I'd now peg him as a late 2nd round pick.

Dude will be out of the league within 5 years, more likely sooner.

Wow, just looked up some of his metric stats. His WAR is the worst in the entire NBA, and by a huuuuuuuuge margin.

He is 19 year old and a project and had to start on one of the worst teams in the league as a PG.

Color me shocked that his metric stats are bad.

Still getting 7.6ppg 3.2apg in just 21.7mpg as a 19 year old rookie on a terrible Minnesota team is pretty decent.

10.2ppg 5.0apg 2.7topg in December.

Our rookies are nowhere to be seen, except DLeague.

Can't pass? Plays like he might have brain damage? I don't think you have even seen a Minnesota game other than the Suns matchup maybe.

I honestly wonder if you have seen any NBA games. All of your posts are in relation to stats, that's it, and it's usually some cherry picked advanced stats to back up whatever you're trying to claim. You never say anything in relation to what you see other than numbers. How many Suns games have you seen this year? How many NBA games period?

I honestly don't think he actually watches many, if any, games. Like you said, all arguments are based off stats.

It shows he's from Germany, and he never posts during games. I don't think the time zone allows him to post while the games are going on here but I'm not completely sure on this.

Lavine reminds me so much of Gerald Green.

I thought it was odd he actually commented during the event tonight. I know he's in Germany and lately I've been noticing more and more he never posts any observations. Sure stats matter but they aren't the be all end all of basketball, especially while discussed by fans on message boards. There are a lot of players who put up good numbers that don't effect games, like Kevin Love.. His numbers this year are nothing compared to what he did in Minnesota. The team also isn't as good as everyone thought they'd be and Love's play I think is a factor in that although he's putting up ok numbers they are all huge drops. Cousins and Rudy Gay are both good stats/bad team players as well. They'll put up good numbers but never lead a team anywhere and that's apparent when you watch them play.

As for Lavine he did good in the slam dunk contest but he also benefited from everyone else sucking. It had to be the worst dunk contest I've ever seen. I haven't seen him play much but when I have he's looked pretty bad, it's obvious that he's not a PG even though Minnesota has been playing him there. He's young so he might develop but the way that Minnesota has used him I doubt he ever develops into a solid rotation player. I think you're right thinking of him as a Gerald Green like player. He'll probably end up bouncing around a lot and having trouble sticking with a team. Green finally seems to be a semi-competent rotation player now although I think Jeff is the wrong coach for him. He's given him a complete green light on offense and Green uses it without putting in any effort on defense at all this year. He tried harder on defense last year but this year it seems the effort is gone. When he was in Indiana he tried on defense or he got sat but he still managed to play an 8-9th man role there most of the time. If he played half as smart or well as he did last year I think the team should hold onto him but with what I've seen this season we can part ways quick enough. I think last year he was trying to prove himself and he was really the only back up SG we had, he also was the only player who could fill the starting spot when Bledsoe went down. With a more defined role he took advantage of it to prove he belonged in the NBA. I'm not sure if it was IT's signing or what but this year he doesn't seem to be playing as hard, like I said Jeff also doesn't seem to hold him accountable either and won't yank him when he's tossing up horrible shots and is obviously having an off night on offense or when he's getting beat on defense. I know he's playing more SF than SG this year but that can't have caused him to play as dumb as he has.

Its one thing to just be a struggling player who needs to mature, but its something else when you're, statistically, the worst player in the NBA by a wide margin.

Oh, come on, man! He is a 19 year old kid!

I can't tell if you're supporting P-Bit with a little bit of sarcasm or if you're arguing against his opinion. I agree that Lavine will probably get much better with some age and experience but I worry about someone who leaves school when he clearly is so far from being ready. Much like Archie Goodwin, you worry whether he will ever be coachable if his view of his game is so in conflict with reality.

As dirty as this makes me feel, I am agreeing with Slin.

Well, I can certainly see the "age" argument. I would have to say though, for those of us that thought he was too much of a long-shot to take early, he has performed exactly as expected. No one ever doubted his athleticism, it is off the charts. If he'd still been there at the bottom of the round, I would have loved to take a flier on him too. But picking at number 8? Too much risk IMO.

Yes, he is young and he can jump, and I realize those two qualities inspire much titillation among NBA fans, but thats all he has going for him. I've seen far more huge athletes with little talent flame out of the league than I've seen him eventually learn skills that they've shown no signs of possessing.

Currently advanced stats peg him as the worst player in the NBA, last year he wasn't even good in college. Personally, I'd like to see more than a vertical to even remotely consider a dude as a top 10 pick.

And seriously, its not just that his stats are terrible, look at the gap between him and the 2nd most terrible player. Its enormous.

https://sports.yahoo.com/nba/minnesota-timberwolves-golden-state-warriors-2015041109/

scored double digits in every game since March 19.

37/9/4
18/5/4
18/5/6
21/5/11
10/5/5
22/7/3
21/6/5
17/4/1
11/3/8
18/6/5
27/3/4
11/5/4
20/7/4

Call me back when one of the Suns young guys does something like that, much less a super athletic 19 year old SG playing at PG
