Cardinals release James, Hood and LaBoy in order to free up cap space in order to make a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles. In this trade the Cardinals would acquire disgruntled CB Sheldon Brown and a draft pick to be determined in the 2010 NFL draft. Brown became expendable after the Eagles traded for Patriots CB Ellis Hobbs who is expected to start opposite another former Patriot, Asante Samuel. Brown, fearing being relegated to being the number 3 or 4 on the Eagles roster demanded a trade. The draft pick will be determined what role Brown will fill in the Cards secondary. If he can earn the top spot, which is unlikely with the emergence of DRC, the Cards will take the Eagles 3rd round pick. If he's the #2 corner then the Cards will receive the Eagles 2nd round pick. If he only manages the #3 spot on the depth chart, the Cards will receive the Eagles #1 pick in the 2010 draft. The Cardnals vow to renegotiate his contract at the end of the 2009 season based on his performance that season.
What do the Cardinals have to give up in order to make this work? Their own disgruntled player, WR Anquan Boldin. After the Cards come to the conclusion that they can't or are unwilling to meet Boldins demands, they decide to move him.
