On Azcentral.com, at http://www.azcentral.com/sports/diamondbacks/alltime/alltimepoll.html they are doing a poll about the All Time D'back greats.

Here is how I voted, how did you vote? And then explain why:

C. Johnny Estrada-only one season, but Damian Miller wasn't anything special, and Chris Snyder hasn't proven himself yet.

1B. Mark Grace- Travis Lee and Erubiel Durazo were the other choices, so this one was easy. In a few years though, it could be Conor Jackson, since Grace's best years were in Chicago.

2B. Orlando Hudson- Two words, Gold Glove.

3B. Matt Williams- Almost voted for Tracy, but Williams' defense was too good. Plus he did have some nice years at the plate here, though they weren't as good as what he did in SF.

SS. Craig Counsell- This will almost assuredly be Stephen Drew in a few years, but for now its the little guy w/ the big heart.

LF. Luis Gonzalez- The fact that he only has 94% of the vote is kinda crazy.

CF. Steve Finley- Again, I think he'll be over taken in the future by Chris Young. And who the hell voted for Devon White? Weird.

RF. Shawn Green- This one was tough, not a lot of great options. Though Green never was what we had hoped, he was more solid than the other candidates. Carlos Quentin though, he's the man.

LHP- Randy Johnson- Omar Daal got almost 2%- are people just picking the obviously dumb choices?

RHP- Brandon Webb- This was tough, Schilling did it in the post season, which counts for a lot, but Webb does have a Cy Young and is better suited for our ballpark. I guess I voted for him thinking of the future a bit.

Closer- Matt Mantei- He was rarely healthy, but he was decent when he was. I would've voted for Kim had it not been for the 2 blown saves in the World Series.

Manager- Bob Brenly- We haven't had anyone particularly great, but he's the best of the bunch.

As of the time I did the poll, the leaders were:

C. Damian Miller
1b. Mark Grace
2b. Jay Bell
3b. Matt Williams
SS.Craig Counsell
LF. Gonzo
CF. Steve Finley
RF. Reggie Sanders
LHP. Randy Johnson
RHP. Curt Schilling
Closer. Matt Mantei
Manager. Bob Brenly

So it looks like most people are just picking the 2001 team, which I guess I can't fault them for.

C Estrada- He may not have wanted to be here, but he had a great season.
1B Grace- Easy, what a reliable glove he had and was a big part of that championship team.
2B Hudson- What you said, he's also a good leader.
3B Williams- I would have picked Tracy too if not for the bad season he had last year, I still expect him to be #1 eventually.
SS Counsell- I wanted to pick Womack because he was one of my favorite players but Counsell was the obvious choice. He's just a better hitter.
LF Gonzalez- Mr. Diamondback. I liked Delucci but Gonzo is the best hitter this team has had.
CF Finley- Was very good as a Diamondback, I love the picture of him after the D-Backs win the World Series were he's just in awe with his hands on his head.
RF Sanders- He was great in '01 and I just think he was better than Green.
LHP Randy- Obvious
RHP Schilling- Him and Randy were a great 1-2 punch and he was just dominant in those playoffs and during the regular season. Webb has yet to be tested on the big stage.
Closer Kim- He was just so reliable besides those two starts. He finished off the Braves for us and was great all year that year. Mantei was good at a time, but then came the injuries and didn't he really suck when he came back? Valverde has been great at some points, but inconsistent.
Manager Brenly- World Series...

C- Damien Miller - Estrada might have had a more productive season then Miller ever had but he also carried baggage and wasn't the most popular player in the clubhouse.
1B - Mark Grace - obvious
2B - Jay Bell - Without him and Matt Williams we would never have gotten RJ and Schilling and that would leave us with no championship
SS - Craig Counsell - obvious
3B - Matt Williams - See Jay Bell; one of the best defensive 3B you'll ever see
LF - Luis Gonzalez - obvious
CF - Steve Finley - obvious
RF - Danny Bautista - I'd give it to Quentin but he only has 2 months under his belt. Shawn Green was a bum and Bautista made more of an impact in the 01 WS and 1st few weeks of the 02 season then Sanders had
SP - Randy Johnson - whomever voted for Anderson or Daal should be arrested for obscene stupidity
SP - Curt Schilling - toughest choice of them all, Webb is great but Schilling was just so damn good.
RP - Jose Valverde - Lack of options really. Mantei couldn't stay healthy in a clean room and Kim really only had 2002 where he was the closer the full season.
Manager - Buck Showalter - Brenly rode Johnson and Schilling's coattails for his success and Melvin hasn't had any success.

Aside from RJ and Gonzo most of them are going to change in the next few years.

We've had a lot of crappy right fielders.

Hopefully Carlos will put an end to that.

No way Webb is even close to Schilling.............yet. Webb won the Cy Young last year more by default than anything else. Schilling had a couple of much stronger years than Webb has had. If points were deducted for egomania Webb would win easy.

C-Miller(he did a great job with the pitchers)
RP-Schilling, hands down. Curt was bigtime pitcher when he was here. It always seemed like when the Diamondbacks were on a losing streak Curt would get a win. He was dominant in 2001. Couldn't of pitched a better game in game 7 against the Yankees.
Closer-Kim(he might of blown those two saves in games 4&5 but the guy took over for Mantei and did a great job in 2001. He was a big reason the D'Backs got to the World Series)
RF-Sanders. He had many big hits in 2001.

The rest I agree with you on Hoover.

I cant believe they left Wally Backman off the list! Or do you have to actually be manager for more than a week to be considered?
