And how many guys have recieved big money because they showed "potential" and turned out to be maybe above average?
Rose, Eddie Jones, ect.

I may be old school, but I believe a person should recieve a raise when they have proven they deserve it. I wouldn't go to my boss and tell him to pay me top salary because I will get better at my job.
The problem with that statement is it references the real world. I try not to relate my RW job or life to the world of sports because it is like two alternate universes.

1. If you’re like most Americans your job likely is not cared about by the public and your potential work value is not worth millions upon millions.

2. The lifespan of a players contributing years is much less than someone in the RW, so you have to take risks on players as they enter their very short window of peek years.

It's fine to be old school and expect production before reward and in most cases I would agree with you 100% but your NBA team would be terrible if all you had was guys who had proven were at the end of their productive years and were locked into long term deals. Your future would be in question and you would have to always trade away your high draft picks to regain flexibility, start from scratch build a team of young talented players, develop them , get close to a championship, trade them all away for old players again because these young guys haven't proven it yet. Hmmm why does that sound so familiar?
In fact in NBA terms I could argue that Gary Payton is equivilent to a 104 year old man ask your boss if he is going to give a 104 year old man a large raise even if he was really productive 30 years back.

Again it's your opinion, and I respect that, but I would actually like to see the Suns keep their young core players they develop in stead of always trying to bring someone proven from somewhere else? I am only asking them to do what they said they would do.

You watch in two to three years this team is going to be full of old proven vets who are half of the player they used to be all locked into long term deals. So I predict it will end up exactly where you want it.
