Am I the only one with doubts about Warner?

Warner got the ball to the Receivers and that is all that matters to me. I noticed that a lot of the balls were behind the receivers but that is to be expected when a new QB is still getting used to his WRs.

That is why it's important to get all of our WRs on the field with Warner during the pre-season. The more time they get together during live action the more they will be on the same page.

I have a couple of questions/comments about that comment from Kurt.

iirc BJ was nowhere near Fitz, so if it was overthrown, it was by a mile.

Second, this may well be disinformation

If it was thrown to Fitz, then Johnson was running a bad route. Kurt talks about throwing to spot. You don't throw to a spot with one of your own guys blocking your view. Personally, I believe Kurt when he says he overthrew Johnson. In that case, his biggest throw was actually his worst one of the night. Aren't we due for those sorts of breaks?

I said the night of the game that he was off except for a couple of throws. But, he did get it to where his WRs could make plays and read the D properly. Even with some shaky throws, that's better than what we're used to.

I too have some major worries about Warners performance. Lets start with 14/19, a 74% percentage and 150 yards in less than a half. This is misleading because of the balls behind the receivers. This was all due to the receivers making good catches, Warner doesnt get any credit. When he throws downfield, he gets lucky, and most of the yards he deserves are through dumpoff passes. Next is the wobbly passes. I would rather have had Bledsoe and his 4 out of whatever for 27 yards. At least he didnt have any wobblers. Next is the 111 rating. wtf, why couldnt we get the Colts to trade Manning, at least he is consistently near 120. Next is the mobility, or lack of it. I long for the days of QBs throwing for sub 100 yards in a whole game as long as they can scramble a bit, like McNown against the Giants last year. For that matter we should have traded for Michael Vick to get a running QB. Forget about a real passing attack. And forget about Warners Super Bowls and MVPs, he had the benefit of good receivers and a product of the system. Even Ryan Leaf would have excelled in that system.

After watching the game, I TiVO'd it so I sat down and watched almost every passing play in slow motion.

That being said, I just can't get excited about Warner. Most of his passes were off the mark, some way off the mark such as the fluke TD catch which was a grossly overthrown pass to BJ. Not to mention most of the passes wobbled as I only counted 2 perfect spiral passes.

I understand it was the first preseason game so I am hopeful the tape of the KC game will be better but at this point I am starting to get a little wary that Warner is not going to return to anything near his MVP season performances.

Anyone else feeling a little worried after watching the tape?

Cardinal Mike!!

You said it best with "it's the first preseason game". New player to the team with a new offense. Give him some time. If he's looking shaky after the third game, then let's worry...

Nice! I think you and I would get along well.

Warner will be fine if...

the line does a decent job, yes- We will win the division with our defense to boot. And as far as Crazy Canuck said that Tarkenton wobbled his way to the Hall of Fame...I don't think Tarkenton is in the Hall of Fame (strange but true, Jim Kelly lost all those Super Bowls and got in but Fran I believe is still not in with his Super Bowl losses).

Are you kidding?

At the time of his retirement, Fran owned every significant passing record – 3,686 pass completions, 47,003 passing yards, and 342 touchdowns. But particularly in his early years, Tarkenton attracted widespread attention as an exciting scrambler who took plays from sideline to sideline. Add his 3,674 yards rushing to his stunning passing totals and you have 50,677 yards – almost 29 miles or 500 football fields – of offensive progression. Yet Tarkenton was also a "quality" passer as his 80.4 passing rating that placed him in the upper echelon in that category demonstrates.

Thanks for the update

When did he get in? I know the guy was bitter for years that he wasn't in and it made no sense. He was Jake Plummer WITHOUT the mistakes. He did wobble his way in after all, my bad.

I loved watching "Tark" in the game... never knew what would happen on a play. Lot's of times it would appear he was cornered /play over only to have him "pull a rabbit out of the hat". He really was a great one!

Me not worried about his ability. Me more worried about his body getting scraped off the field.

According to this page
http://www.profootballhof.com/hof/member.jsp?player_id=209
his last season was 1978. And according to this page:
http://www.profootballhof.com/history/team.jsp?franchise_id=18
he was inducted in 1986.

I don't recall the details, but you're right - apparently, he wasn't inducted on the first ballot, but more like the third or fourth.
