Am I the only person very happy with this draft?

Holy overreactions Batman! I swear some of yall would bash this draft if we got Jon Ogden and Shawne Merriman with our first two picks. Let's look them over:

1. Levi Brown: Second best tackle in the draft, and most importantly, this was a pick that had to be made. Left tackle was far and away our biggest need coming in. If we didn't get Brown we would've had to go with a bigger reach in Doug Free or James Marten in the second (both guys are clear third round picks).

2. Alan Branch: Let's put these Gabe Watson comparisons to bed right now. Watson was a second round pick on most people's boards coming into the draft, and Branch was clearly top ten. Branch is way better athletically, had much more consistent production, and his weight/motivation issues aren't as nearly pronounced as Watson's was. Plus, he will fill in at DE, a position that we also seriously need. The steal of the draft.

Branch is a significantly better athlete than Watson... That being said, Branch disappears in big games, and DT doesnt seem like a need... when we have glaring holes on the Oline, LB, and DB

Brown is the best run-blocking tackle in the draft. Thomas only put up, what, 19 reps at the combine? Thomas is a pass-blocking specialist, we don't need that, we need to run the ball.

Branch is a dominant NT. We've never had one in AZ. This is going to be fun.

Today we bought a running game, and a run-stopping game with the first two picks. These are the best-thought-out picks the team has made since I've been following them. This signals a new era.

To win, you run the football & you stop the run. You build a team from the lines out. Whisenhunt gets this. Grimm gets this. Graves now gets this.

A+ so far on this draft from me.

We reached for Brown, but I really like the pick .. I guess we had no one to trade down with ..

Branch was a bad move because of what we had to give up (4th) to get a player at a position that we are loaded at ...

We could have stayed at #38 and got a real good player .. like a LB .. or traded with SD and gathered picks ...

I am loving it too. Yes I wanted Ap, but Whiz went out and stuck to his guns. Said he wanted to run the ball and stop the run. These 2 picks do just that. B in my book.

So far this draft is a C to C- including giving away that fourth. We needed an B+ or an A draft to stay competitive in the NFC West and we didn't get it.

I wouldnt say I loved the 1st pick but I dont hate it either in light of the fact that Thomas and Adams were both gone according to Graves Presser not a single team called us during our time on the clock.

As for the 2nd pick I wont compare him to Watson because Branch is a lighter version of Watson. To put it into perspective last year if put into our NT and UT scheme at Michigan when the played with each other Branch was the UT and Watson was the NT. In fact Branch played DE many times during his time at michigan both in the 3-4 and the 4-3 alignments. I like the fact that Wiz is starting HIS team with building the lines first. I also like the fact that we were agressive in getting the player we really wanted by trading up. Although I do think he still would ahve been there at pick #38 but they didnt want to take that chance and I can see the reasoning for not taking that chance.

I am not doing back flips on this draft so far but I dont need to drink becuase of it either and I am not pissed.

I agree.

And also BOTH picks will make everyone behind them better.

both are reaches. Will they be good players? Maybe, but when you only have 6 picks you don't give up one to move 5 spots for a player who by most accounts would have been there when you picked next.

Couldn't be happier with these picks. We will be tougher in both the OL and DL where games are really won and loss.

Although it can be argued, the Cardinals may have gotten two players that were considered top ten talent. It all starts with the line.

I cannot criticize the Cardinals draft based on what I see although I would like to have more selections to fill needs.

Thomas put up 28. Brown put up 31. The average is 26 for OT that lifted at the combine.

And this isnt an arguement against Brown just what I think Thomas is. Thomas was/is a very strong player and doesnt get enough credit for being a very very solid run blocker.

Agree, I still would have loved AP, but am happy that we seem to have a plan.

Wouldn't have been there. Detroit would have picked him up.

I like these picks because of what they represent. Attention to the line of scrimmage. Something we failed to do in the past. decent OLBs will be there in the third. Graves did something impressive... he traded up for a player he wanted. He was aggressive and saw a player probably very high on his board to where it was a bargain to give up that 4th for it. SO he drafted him, despite not being as big of a need where we got him.

I think you're overreacting and getting too caught up in the players the rest of the NFCW has taken.

So far in our division:

SF drafted one very good ILB and a OT. Willis will probably have in impact right away. Chances are Staley won't. He's a terrific athlete at OT but won't be an instant star, and there's no indication that he'll be anything more than a good starter. Solid pickups for them but hardly enought to catapult them in to contention.

Rams drafted Carriker. That's it so far. Good player but he's not spelling doom for us.

Seattle hasn't even drafted yet. We did get another run stuffer which helps considering the changing complexion of the NFCW. Gore, Alexander, Jackson...we've got some big backs and power running to face now.

If the cards can run the ball and stop the run better than they have in the past decade it will be a great draft.

What I am happy about is if we took AP(Like I wanted), we would not of been able to take advantage of Branch falling. We would of HAD to take an OT in the second IMO.

Now we have 2 top players in this draft that will improve the rest of the players that play behind them.
