Amare's Jersey Strip Down

Does anyone know why as soon as the final buzzer sounds, Amare takes his jersey off? I thought that he must be throwing it to a fan or something but I haven't actually seen him do that, and on a couple of occassions he just walks back to the locker room with his jersey in hand.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who has noticed this as most interviews he gives while leaving the court, show him wearing the black undershirt with the white ribbed striping he wears under the jersey.

It seems like there's got to be some type of story behind it.

He is not the only one. David West does it all the time, Kobe does it every now and then (heard it last night a couple of times, once before he even shot the ball). I am starting to hear it a lot. Perhaps it is a psychological thing?

He takes off his jersey right after the game because it is hot under that "body armor" black jersey.

That black jersey provides support across the torso and also has padding to protect against bumps, thrown elbows, lowered shoulders and hitting the hardwood.

It's soaking wet and so is his underarmor. When he removes his jersey and the air hits directly on the soaked underarmor and the sweat evaporates much quicker, giving him a cooling sensation.

Lets leave the sweaty athletes taking off their clothes threads to the ladies sports websites.

Sounds reasonable enough. I just wasn't sure if he was giving it to somebody, trying to promote under armor or just hates wearing his jersey. However, players in the past haven't usually had an undershirt on, so it just getting too hot makes sense.

If you noticed, the last game Shaq was wearing the black undershirt and Amare had a white one with rib padding.

I've seen him trade jerseys with the other team's star. When they go up to each other right after the game to say "good game" or whatever they say, they flip each other their jerseys. Game worn jerseys are valuable.

It is quite obvious that he simpy does this for MONEY...amare complains of the lack of sponsorship opportunities but when he strips to his black nike dry fit, the nike symbol is right there. hmmmmmmmmmm its all about the BENJI'S

He must have a clause in a contract somewhere to show off his undershirt. Is that under Armour? I didn't know they had pads... Amare is pushing hard to get bigger sponsors (I believe I read recently he had fired his publicist and hired a new one... like his 4th in 2 years). That has me concerned a bit - he may opt to go to a bigger market in a few years, just when he starts winning league MVP.

It's disturbing that Mike D'Antoni is making a spectacle of himself on the sidelines, trying to show up the refs on every call against the Suns.

Of course it carries down to his players.

It's going to hurt us in the playoffs.

Players won't bring it under control until the Head Coach does.

I really think this matter should be brought to the Suns' FO attention. Clearly, showing refs up in a game will do us no good. It embarrasses refs which gives them more motivation to call the close ones against us. The NBA instituted the '16 Ts = suspension' rule for the purpose of discouraging coaches and players from embarrassing refs. That sends a clear message that the NBA is and will always be on the refs' side on this issue.
Also, those refs are human. Imagine that you're a ref officiating a nationally televised game that your family and friends are probably watching at home. Then, you friggin' blew a call. That's already embarrassing. But to be screamed expletives at by coaches and players and do nothing about it is even more embarrassing. Yeah, it's the wrong reaction to a trouble you yourself caused, but that's the common, ego-protecting human reaction.

I somewhat disagree I wish Dantoni would maybe get tossed in a few games if we are gonna lose because of the refs he should make a huge deal about it and maybe even pay a few fines to make the league take notice of some of the ridiculous calls against us. Maybe a few of the refs need to be canned if they don't know how to do their job correctly. Whats ridiculous is having what appear to be 70 yr old men out their trying to keep up and see what mid 20's athletes in their prime are doing on the court.

I do sympathize a little bit with what D'Antoni is going through. All his career he's fought coaching a power game.

Now he's trying to adapt during crunch time vs. the most talented basketball teams in the world.

Ideally, the switch to a Power Center should have been accompanied by a coach with the experience to run it.

His frustration is showing. And it's going to cost us in more ways than one.
