Over his last 9 games he gained 1351 yards, at that pace in 16 games he would have rushed for 2401 yards!

Even not starting 7 games he topped 300 carries, I don't think anybody could have kept up the pace carry wise but shows you what a great RB behind a great OL can do.

Just think if KC had a defense.

Yeah he is quite the player, but another nice stat is that that O_line probably has more PBs than any other line.

Oh I realize the OL is remarkable in KC but what impresses me the most on LJ is his durability. Over those 9 starts at the end of the year he had 261 carries, 29 a game. that's pretty insane, 464 carries over 16 games. For a guy whose toughness was questioned by his coach early in his career, he sure has proven to be a hell of a RB.

I often wonder exactly what Vermeil didn't like about him early on, it's not like he was smaller or something. Just kills me to think they were allegedly offering him for a 2nd rounder early last season.

The famous diapers comment came because he whined about playing time. I think he was very vocal about it and of course Priest Holmes was the man here and everyone kinda said yeah right.

Turns out about like I said, he's a stud with a capital S and Priest Holmes benefited from a great line.

I was praying we'd be able to trade for him, I guarantee you he wouldn't go a season without a rushing TD even behind our line.

If JJ can get 2 TD's behind this line, I'm sure LJ could get a lot more.

Yeah I am choosing to believe that rumor they were offering him to anybody for a 2nd rounder was wrong, makes it easier to cope with.

Doesn't he have 20 TD's aswell, thats insane. Guy would have destroyed the season RB TD record.

1 = An exception to the rule.

He's definitely not the standard.

Not to mention that he has one of the best blocking FB's in the league in Tony Richardson. Look at a Priest or LJ run, he is almost always in the mix taking someone out to spring a big run. He's a killa.

Wow good find, the rumor we were discussing was 3rd round not 2nd:eek:

He'd never do that well here we don't have the OL, but we wouldn't be worried if we had a RB had we made that deal.

Actually I'm not so sure he would have broken the TD record, keep in mind that several of the 20 TD's he got in goal line sitautions filling in for Priest Holmes. I do think mid 20's would have been a real likely hood tho for him. (plus keep in mind that if he was the starter all season some of his goal line carries would get taken away by the backup, just the way it usally works in the NFL). Now he might have broken the record or come damn close, but don't think he would have destroyed it. Based just on the 9 games he started and figuring the # of TD projected thru a full 16 games and he ends up with 28 TD's.

Perhaps the best RB in the NFL this year. Just does not get any publicity.

Like I said, I was wrong about him, but you can roll your little eyes all you want...the fact still remains that most all Penn State RBs are worthless. Also, what I said about Johnson's final year at Penn State is true, he racked up amazing yardage against the Indiana's of the NCAA.

He is a good runner, but let's look realistically, he's behind the best Oline in football and that certainly hasn't hurt him. He's no Curtis Enis but I don't know if he is AS GOOD as his stats.

Great season though.

Gotta love the PSU homers!

Nobody is as good as his stats but his stats for 9 games are better than any year Priest Holmes had and Johnson seemed to be getting better as the year went on.

If we had traded for him last year he wasn't going to do that here, but he sure would have gained more yards than SHipp and JJ did I gotta believe.

Plus he can play PF on our basketball team.

Admittedly I am as much a Penn State homer as I am an Arizona Cardinals homer!

Former Penn State RB's:
Franco Harris
Lydell Mitchell
Curt Warner
Lenny Moore
John Cappeletti
Dick Hoak
Matt Suhey
Explain to me how each of these guys was a bust...

LMAO..this is actually funny!

Harris and Moore are your only two that were good...Harris played 20 years ago and Moore 40 years ago.

Warner had a couple of great seasons, but had a short career....very sporadic, I watched him when I lived in Seattle. I'd classify him overall as average.

Every guy you list played his last game at least 15 years ago. The funniest one you put up was Suhey....the guy was a BACKUP! He had less career TD's in 10 years than Shaun Alexander had THIS year.

Face it, in the modern era Penn State RBs have been garbage....Larry Johnson might be the exception to this rule, OR, he just may be the one actual good one to come out of PSU every 20 years....right on schedule.

So, are you a Florida State guy, from Pitt, or did JoePa pee in your Cheerios? You're going out of your way to go after Penn State lately, it seems. Why don't you shut your mouth before more bias spews forth, eh?

I'm not going to shut my mouth, I dislike Penn State and most of the other Little 11 schools, I think they are consistently the most overrated conference and hate the bias they get by the voters.

Yeah, I'm bias, but I'm surely not going to shut my mouth because YOU tel me to!

We actually took Johnson from Penn State in the first round of that draft...Bryant Johnson, that is.

Wouldn't surprise me at all if the Cards meant to pick Larry, but couldn't remember his first name, so they called out a name, and there happened to be a guy with that name on the team. (only half joking)
