Yeah, he is. (IMHO)

One thing all of the named guys have in common, apart from the ability to be the role, is they are all extremely daring and creative, and have less concern for their 'box office appeal' than for the work they do. Depp probably pushes that risk farther than any of the others, to a point that he's less careful about the projects he signs on to,
For me, that doesn't translate into great acting. He's a kook, but so is Mickey Rouke. Doesn't make them the next Marlon Brando. (Although I thought Rouke was brilliant in Sin City).

I'll also admit that I'm slightly biased by the fact that Depp bugs me (way before his politics became headlines).

Interesting - I thought if anyone was argued it might be Ralph Fiennes. His work is so subtle and clean he often gets overlooked. I do think Depp is an acquired taste for some people and seems to engender stronger negatives - esp for men. He gets a couple starter points from women - but then, all four of the actors I mentioned do.

I like Fines. He's sort of a "throwback" actor to the days when Hollywood had some class. ;)

A few years ago thought we'd be talking about Val Kilmer in this conversation, too. He sort of fell off, though.

Then, there's a whole 'nother conversation about actors that may not be great, but they definately have "it," a charisma that makes women want to sleep with them and men want to drink beer with them...Clooney, McConeghey (sp?), etc...

I also thought Val Kilmer had it at one time - his turn in Tombstone still knocks me out. Oh well...maybe a bit too glamorous for his own good.

I remember first seeing Fiennes in 'Schindler's List' and was absolutely blown away by him. I couldn't believe it when I found out he was a polite, elegant, classically-trained British actor.

Clooney has not worn especially well over time for me, but McConnaughey (sp?) - PHEW.

btw American History X DVD is on sale for $9.44 at Target. Got a copy today.

Is this the one that starts off with the white guy banging a chick 100 MPH while his car is getting stolen? :D

It's actually right around 93 mph. I won't get into specifics any more than that.

one of my altime favorites ...very disturbing and compelling film, but all around great movie ... great acting, great dialogue and some great filming

i also agree that ed norton had a string where he was unstopable ... primal fear is another great role of his

I rewatched this one. What a great film; holds up very well, especially in today's environment.

Ugh the 'Curbing' seen was so hard to watch. I was watching it out of the corner of my eye.

One of the most disturbing scenes I've ever scene.

I always thought Edward Furlong was a good actor...... too bad he pissed away his career on drugs.....

Sounds like he's had a very rough time. I couldn't tell if he's finally got his life together or not.
