Couldn't find a thread about Season 8.

Hopefully somebody is still watching.

Kinda shocked that the Jabbar kid (the friend of the widower) didn't make it but that Norman Gentle guy did. Pretty lame.

Can't wait until next week to get a look at the field collectively as I don't think they've really shown everybody still standing.

Anoop is one of my favs so far.

Some of their selections were terrible. I guess that is TV.

www.votefortheworst.com has already anointed everyone's favorite Argentinian to be this year's Sanjay.

I was wondering, if there are 36 left, and 12 per group, that means that there are 3 groups.

If they take 3 from each group, then that gets them to the final 9.

How are they getting the other 3 to round out the final 12?

Our DVR recorded the last two episodes in all black so my wife couldn't make me watch it with her.

I heart my DVR.

This new top 36 format is crap.

Now we arent going to see the top three from the first show for like 4 weeks.

My wife and I knew who the last person was with 5 people left!

What a horrible idea this was.

The format is weak and some of the contestants who are not the widower and few select "stars" may get washed aside when the top 12 is actually formed. And if you get it on the wild card selection you are screwed. From the 1st 12 that went if Anoop gets in, a few weeks from now all most people will remember is that he went home.

Of course it's probably by design.

I thought that Braddy kid did really well, I was kinda surprised he was eliminated already. Hopefully he'll be a 'wild card' along with Anoop.

My hopes for who makes it through

Kelly Clarkson girl that sang Alone
The girl that sang Drops of Jupiter
The guy who sang Viva La Vida (though I thinkt he big bald guy gets through)

All of the guys were terrible. Pretty much the whole show stank except for 3 girls. The other girl that sange Betty Davis Eyes wasn't too bad.

And Paula was toasted or something.

Anoop was actually entertaining last night. The rest were boring.

Scott MacIntyre has a master's from Royal School in London. This show is far beneath him.

Evidently he doesn’t think so

I admire the fact he's brave enough to go outside his comfort zone and do this. If this is the kind of music he wants to sing, I think he would be better served following his pop heroes -- Gavin DeGraw, Ben Folds, John Mayer -- and write music that suits his talents. Forget the AI path. Even if he wins, they're not going to let him be a real singer/songwriter. They already have people on the payroll who do that.

The fact remains he probably has more real musical knowledge and talent than anyone else in the history of that show, but a big voice or high-note champ he is not.

A couple of years ago he was dazzling an educated crowd with his interpretation of Prokofiev. Trying to appeal to teens with old Bruce Hornsby is not ... well, crap, it's just sub-standard compared to what he's already done.

But if music is his real love what is wrong with AI.

I know people trash this program every chance they can but there is no denying that it can open a lot of doors. Are they being used by the executives, yes. But they also are getting so many opportunities and exposure that they normally would never have a chance at.

If you are truly good, you'll get a whiff of attention from the money people. But you have to write your own music and perform it on a local level, developing an audience, to get attention. It's a necessary internship for future performers, IMO. That's where you learn how to make good music.

AI rewards are immediate, and lately it's rewarding young talent that has yet to fully develop. Jordin Sparks probably would've been better served for the long-term if she had stayed on her pre-AI path and learned how to better sculpt songs and lyrics. Her release was immature, IMO.

AI doesn't really open doors. If anything, it closes them. Musical freedom is lost as producers shape you as a product, not an artist.

the guy may be an artist - but a pop star he is not

talented yes - but not a great pop singer and I haven't heard anything from him that would leave me to believe he's a great classical style vocalist

he can always go back to the path he was on - for now though, why not enjoy this extra exposure, try something different and get an experience that few can claim - at the end of the day he can still go back to Prokofiev

if anything this will probably give him enough $$$ and name to open doors in any path he may choose - no need to be a starving artist when the buffett is open - it may be mass produced crap, but will fuel you up for the future fine dining
