"Whisenhunt only took the job with Arizona after he and top assistant Russ Grimm were both bypassed after interviewing with the Steelers for the head coaching vacancy created when Bill Cowher retired after the 2006 season."

How is that incorrect? It's what Whisenhunt himself said. I'll agree it's being overstated, but he took the Cardinals HC job because he wasn't in the running for the Steelers job anymore when it was down to Grimm and Tomlin. Had the Steelers chosen Whiz for HC, Grimm would still be here as well, so I'm not seeing how the statement is wrong.
Not true. Whiz said he didn't want to wait for a decision on the Pittsburgh job and when Arizona officially offered, he went here instead. A decision hadn't been made yet when he signed on as coach of the Cardinals. Listen to the Whisenhunt show from a couple of weeks ago.

Yeah, that's basically what I had read in yesterdays sports section (I looked, not hard, but can't find the exact article online that I read yesterday that quoted him) but he said basically that he became aware that the talk of the coaching replacement didn't include him anymore and he didn't want to pass up a sure opportunity. I think if the Rooneys had seemed more sure of him though he probably would have waited was basically what I meant.
Whisenhunt was still under consideration for the Steelers job. Pittsburgh was taking their time making the decision. Whisenhunt accepted the Cardinals job while he was still being considered for the Steelers job. After Whisenhunt accepted a job in Arizona, Grimm and Tomlin were the final two candidates in Pittsburgh. The Steelers chose Tomlin. Those are the known facts.
It's possible that Whisenhunt felt if Pittsburgh was still undecided that his chances were not good there. Maybe. But unless you were on the inside of the deal, then you are only assuming that to be the case.
Show me proof of anything different, quoting the words of the principals themselves; not an assumption by some sportswriter.
I think they would have sucked.I'm glad we didn't hire Mike Sherman or Norm Chow. They may have been good coaches here, but I don't think they'd have us in the Superbowl.
Go Whis...Go Cards!
Another winner of "most repeated, but incorrect statement" will have something to do with the 'Steelers looking to become the winningest team in NFL history, with the most championships, etc.' If by some chance they do win Sunday, that will simply put them in sole possession of 5th place, with half as many championship trophies as the top franchise.
I'm pretty sure if they win they will be the only franchise to have 6 championships..
Don't worry, that won't happen.
The Steelers will win the super Bowl.
I conceed, RonF is correct!
WINNER- (Of the most repeated, incorrect comment of the week!)
Thank you Mom, you're starting to make me re-evaluate my viewpoint of Steeler fans ...... in exchange for your objectivity I won't let any Brown fans in on the big secret that they've won more championships than the Steelers. No his statement is technically correct...The Packers have 12 championships total (9 before the SB started). The Bears also had 7 before the SB began (8 total including 1 SB win). The Giants have 7 titles total (4 before SB and 3 SB titles). Colts, Cowboys, 9ers and Steelers all technically have 5.

This is a crowd that eats dog food, ran a coach out of town that left and now has 4 SB rings, refused to build a stadium and then couldn't wait to build a stadium, thinks Drew Carey is something to be proud of, and is most well known as being 'the mistake on the lake' after their waterfront caught on fire.Oh they know...it's all they have to cling to lol. Really though, only 4 of them were won when they were the Cleveland Browns. One was won when they were the Cleveland Bulldogs and 2 were won as the Canton Bulldogs, then once as the Cleveland Rams.

Being a Pittsburgh fan and having the Browns as your rival is like being Mike Tyson in your prime and facing Michael Spinks.
