But with Whisenhunt saying that he had 'confidence' in Matt and that he 'earned the right to be starter' doesn't sit right with me. Either he was misleading us about Matt then or now.
I agree DCR. I feel very misled by this move. As I posted earlier I feel like I'm being lied to by the coach about this whole situation. He said he had confidence in him and he was the starter. Also him giving me the company line now of:
"This doesn't mean anything." reallllly irritates me. Cmon Whis, this isn't election, I'm an adult, just give it to me straight. I believe that is total crap and Whis knows it. It means something when you bench a QB after 2 quarters of preseason play.
I know Matt hasn't had the best camp based on the things I read but I haven't heard Whis say anything like that. I dont feel like ML has really gotten a fair shake in the first two preseason games and DA has done nothing to inspire my aweful opinion of him. This smells like something Whis has intended doing all along, and I think by playing these kinds of games has an extremely negative effect on the team.
This is the one decision that he has made that made me really do a second take.
I agree, I have supported Whis pretty blindly until this. I dont like how this is playing out one bit.
I supported benching of Edge and was pretty luke warm about starting Warner. I'm very much against this one and completely reeks of desperation.... something I didn't expect from him. Which is weird because you could almost same the same thing about the 3rd preseason game with Leinart/Warner. This one just feels completely different. We aren't talking about a super bowl QB.
Seriously, I think the thing that upsets me the most about this is that I have 0 hope that the guy replacing ML can do anything. DA isn't a good QB, he got benched by probably the worst team in the NFL.
I don't really buy into using past history to make a coach immune to criticism. Whiz went to the Super Bowl, after underachieving mightly in the regular season, with Denny's guys. The term "Worst Playoff Team Ever" was not accurate, but because of some silly personnel moves that stifled the offense it appeared that way leading up to the playoffs. Whiz isn't God.
I will repeat....the WORST aspect of the move is that Derek Anderson is the replacement. I really do not think any of you realize the full implications of that statement. This isn't Warner stepping in. This is replacing a guy who you have invested a lot of time in with a known piece of garbage. Awful move.
I agree again. DA is barely a serviceable backup. As far as Whis goes; I still respect him as a coach and what he's done here. I realize that this man knows more than me about football and always will.
I'm not questioning that, but just because you respect someone and even trust them, that doesn't mean that they aren't going to make a bad decision. Right now, I feel like this is a bad decision but trust me, as a Cardinal fan nothing would please me more than to be proven wrong.
