“There is thought put into this,” Whisenhunt said. “We are evaluating not only how Matt handles this but how other players handle it.”

What do you think Whiz wants to see out of Matt? Does he want him to get pissed off, yell and scream, be calm, stoic or ?

Is he going to sulk on the bench like a spoiled brat? Or is he eager to get into the game and show what he can do when he gets his chance? QBs need mental toughness and Whis is putting Lienart to the test right now.

If completion % means nothing explain to me this why did every QB in the playoffs (except one--Sanchez) complete over 60% of his passes? Was it just a coincidence that 8 of the 10 worst teams in the league all had a QB completing under 60% (exceptions were Was & Jax)? Completion % is huge as is TD to INT ratio...probably the most important QB statistics.

Now, now... don't confuse that deep thinker...;)

well this confirms my worst fears . . . we have no starting nfl caliber qb on our roster. not that i favored one over the other, but i've seen DA and KNOW he's not a good starter. i was hopeful that matured matty would be. this makes me think he isn't.

how bad do we have to be this year to get a shot at locker or luck? top 3? top 2?

The thing I have a problem with is how often does Leinart need to be tested mentally? What ever happened to putting a guy on the field & seeing if he can produce & grow with some failures. IMO Leinart has never been given that chance, like other high QB's picked in the draft have. Am I missing something?

At least he is scoring points. Attacking. You can work with that, try to cut the mistakes. When you can't score, there is nothing to work with at all. Not even a 1st down, yet alone a TD.

Wow. We DO have short memories, don't we?

I agree with you on Anderson, if he is our starter the season is pretty much over.

As for Lienart... I don't think he is the answer but I do think he is the best option that we have on the team right now. I'd like to see what he could do for at least the first 2 regular season games before tossing him in the garbage.

The two rookies have a ton of upside but they clearly are at least a year off from being useful. Hall is probably the closest to being ready but Skelton has the higher ceiling.

I don't know what to say. Whiz is really taking a gamble here. If we end up going with Anderson this season and Matt goes elsewhere and is a hit while Anderson falters, Whiz's so far great legacy will be quite tainted.

I just don't get it. Whiz says he doesn't know what we have in Leinart, yet he refuses to find out. We do know what we have in Derek Anderson. A guy who had one solid season and a bunch of stinkers. Maybe neither of these guys deserve to be starting, but I just don't understand the logic if Whiz never gives Matt a chance. There were some solid QBs available this off-season and we passed on them. Now we are stuck with Derek Anderson. This just feels like same old Cards to me.

I really agree with the posters that said this is just Whiz trying to see what he really has in DA. Also, he gets to have Matt in there against the 2nd team and hopefully does well and gains a little bit of his confidence going into the final preseason game.

I really do not see Matt being cut, if anything DA flops in his start and he is axed.....

But, again if Wiz felt better about Leinart than in seasons past you could totally kill what little confidence he had before this. DA will never be more than a serviceable backup in this league, while we still to this day, other than his rookie year don't know how good or bad ML can be. I would have liked to see Wiz ride the whole season with the kid!!!

I would have liked to see Leinart get more than 5 total series to see what he could do. Anderson has gotten, I think, almost a games worth of snaps in 2 games.

We didn't have one when Warner came here his first year.

Love it.

Compete and step up to the challenge or get the heck out of the way.

Love to see Toler and Washington playing with the ones. Makes sense, and both have earned the oppourtunity.

As for Leinart, the season has started, he is getting his fair shot, and so far has been unimpressive.

I think it is only fair, AND smart to start Anderson in this game. See if he takes the reigns or not.

Right now this team doesn't have a QB. Leinart was named the starter at the beginning of camp, and since then has not out-competed Anderson to the point where he is the starter in stone. Thus the Cardinals are in a QB controversy, and the saying goes if you have 2 QB's you have no QB's

I have seen nothing, and have heard nothing that would prevent Anderson from getting his shot. Leinart has gotten his, and now Anderson should get a turn.

Let the best QB win because without that philosophy Warner never sees the field again after Leinart's rookie year.

Well said.

I think Whiz wants to start Matt but he wants to see some fire and leadership. He wants to see him play with a chip on his shoulder. He's got to reach up and take what's his because Whiz isn't going to hand it to him. It's time for Matt to "drop his huevos"

This is stupid because DA stinks, you have to have someone worthy to pull this, now what are you going to do when DA tosses like 5 picks the first three games?

Go to the water boy?

What's wrong with just getting rid of Matt this offseason when we could of replaced him?

Why would you do this this way?

This is beyond fubar.

I would rather go to Skelton than DA, and Skelton will have massive growing pains.

But at least he's got a future with the Cards. DA? I don't see it.

I doubt this means much, but damn Whis, you got my attention!

Much ado about nothing, this is about the back up QB getting reps with the 1's in a preseason game, nothing more. If it wasn't for the media witch-hunt aimed at Matty who'd give a crap. Matty is the starter!

OK, so he has two passes over 7 yards. Obviously, he should be in the HOF next to Warner. That is my mistake, so sorry for that.

He was never able to score many points and that's the problem. That's not even for a discussion. He can't score. Period. He is taken out as starter because he couldn't move the football.

Protecting the ball and playing defensively as QB, will never get you far in the modern NFL. And he made so many bad reads this preseason, even with a simply playbook as that, it's no wonder he is losing his job and will certainly get cut or traded.
