Bruce Ellington just ripped off a 4.31 40 at the Combine. Pretty impressive stuff. I wonder if Andre is campaigning for the Cards to add his cousin.

Official time was a 4.45 which is very good but not take the top off the D good. Also his 10 yd split time was 1.63 which is more slow than fast. I believe BASK will draft a speed WR but I don't see them spending a draft pick on a sorta fast WR, they be signing with Sammy Hagar.

Josh Brown Pittsburg State 4.34

Brandon Cooks Oregon State 4.33

Donte Moncrief Mississippi 4.40

Paul Richardson Colorado 4.40

These all have the fastest official 40 times.

All fairly silly when you think about tenth & hundreds of seconds in shorts determining who is or isn't a speed WR. It does give you some insight but watching them play in actual games should be the deciding factor, right Andre.

Sounds like a great pick: a RB who is both small and slow. I think some of you could sell ice cubes to Eskimos.

Actually, the more important (maybe) speed is the "flying 20" which is the last half of the 40. While Jerry Rice's 40 is legendarily slow, his flying 20 (or 10) was elite.

I think that the focus on family members is kinda insane. I'm not going to dig up the threads on Anquan Boldin's brother, but they're around here somewhere.

On the other hand its the first 10 for the majority of players. Too slow to get going and it makes no difference how fast you are the last 20 of 40 yards in football. A perfect example of being fast but not quick is JJ Arrington. He used to remind me of the Roadrunner cartoons where the Roadrunner would spin in place for a couple of seconds and then zoom off. Which is why I believe he was a better Kick Returner than RB.

I was thinking about the ability to get on top of a defender quickly and it's all DJ's fault because he posts at least twice a month how our WR's are slow off the line. :)

I agree about family members unless that name is Mathews, then you simply must pay attention.

Sell it DJ because I've been focusing on the 10 yd split because of your posts.

Just because Bruce ran a 4.40ish 40 doesn't really make him fast; he also was a pretty good, but not great college player.

I know because I watched almost every South Carolina game this year and a bunch last year. I like Bruce, but only at the very end of the draft as a special teamer/4th-5th WR.

Ellington could be a return option in the 6th round and maybe a higher pick if the Cards like what he can bring as a speed WR.
