He has been a surprise. As a rookie in camp he couldn't catch anything and was originally supposed to take over for Breaston as punt return man but he couldn't field the punts.

He ended up having an ok rookie season as a punt returner and for those who hate the Cowboys he's your man. 2 games 11 receptions for 221 yards and a TD.





Actually Roberts sucks. Relegated to #3 by a guy who didn't even know where to line up a year ago? If Defenses weren't triple covering Fitz and Floyd Roberts would never catch a pass.

with floyd being here if he wants a good amount of money we likely let him walk for sure. You have to pick one or the other.

are you talking about the franchise tag? if so, this team couldn't possibly use the tag on Roberts. I think that would be an incredibly bad move seeing as how much that instantly makes his contract.

and while we don't know what the going rate will be, a young WR who continues to get better every year will be a hot commodity on the FA market and I just don't think we can afford to make that type of commitment money wise to one position.

would be nice to see if they could have gotten him signed to an extension or would try and work one out prior to him hitting FA, but Urban just had an article a couple days ago saying he doesn't expect there to be any in house extensions this year as we're right now sitting just 4 million away from the salary cap.

will Roberts be unrestricted next year or an RFA? I can't remember. If he's restricted that would be great, but if he's not, I'd be pretty surprised to see him back here if he continues to grow as a WR like he has the last couple seasons.

If Floyd keeps progressing the way he has, he will be 2x better than Roberts.. I like Roberts but I'm just meh on him.. Can find lots of receivers with his skills..

I like Andre a lot and was one of the few that stood up for him during his rookie campaign. Breaston was still better at the same point in their careers but it is very close. Q was (still is) massively better than Floyd is now. Floyd can become very good to great but being as good as Q would be incredibly tough since Q is GAM.

So while the top 3 right now are VERY good we have basically nothing behind them.

I have no idea what can or cannot be afforded at this point or going forward, and no idea as to the tag cost. But, I doubt they'll let a prime asset simply walk.

the franchise tag number starts at over 10 million per year. Slapping that on him would never happen. I'm surprised anyone would even think that's an option.

I am not sold on Floyd, and would prefer to keep Roberts over him as I feel Floyd is basically a much lesser version of Fitzgerald. Roberts brings a slot WR option, but can also play outside if needed. I would trade Floyd in a heartbeat if I could get any value for him. Makes great catches but isn't consistent enough for me.

I didn't get that at all from Urban's article:

Who would be in line for an in-season extension? There are plenty of guys under one-year deals, but judging both by value and a potential future, of the players due to be unrestricted free agents after the season, I could see guard Paul Fanaika, tight end Jim Dray, tackle Eric Winston or defensive end/linebacker Matt Shaughnessy. That doesn’t mean they all will (or any of them, for that matter) or even that we are talking about giant contracts. But I wouldn’t be shocked. It’ll depend on how they play too.

Of course, the big extension everyone is expecting/waiting on is one for cornerback Patrick Peterson. The Cards can’t start those talks until the day after the regular season based on the CBA and Peterson’s need to be three years into his career (the 49ers have the same thing going on with Colin Kaepernick right now.) But he’ll be extended, probably to a pretty rich deal, and he’ll be the defensive cornerstone guy like Larry Fitzgerald has been the guy on the offensive side.

New england needs a good WR bad, the market will be there from several teams. He can choose us at a discount or he will make much more elsewhere. It all depends on what type of person roberts is. If he is comfortable with change, he will leave and make more. If he is loyal to who gave him a shot and we offer decent money, he will stay,.

The tag is not an option for him IMO
