What I didn’t understand is why with Ford lined up way outside and no chip help Smith would still seemingly take a step inside at the snap before swinging outside and attempting to “block” him. What was up with that??
noticed that too

again and again -- a look and half step inside while Ford was simply flying outside

So true. Was sure he was signed as depth. What a fracking Keim that was.

(Yes I’m using “Keim” now as a noun replacement for “mistake”)

here is the part i dont get-

they had Jared Veldheer, who is in the last year of his contract.

so they trade Veldheer, and dump $3mm or so of dead money onto this years cap.

So -- paying Smith, plus Veldheers dead cap money = what Veldheer would have cost in the last year of his deal.

So -- no cap savings, and, not a better player.

to me, that says Keim thought they were upgrading at RT with Andre Smith, and to date, that clearly hasnt been the case.

That is a sobering set of facts when lineup next to each other.

One more negative vote against extending Humphries then.
Not a good idea on a terrible OL. Too many holes to fix already. While not optimal, most OL's struggle in pass pro with the D schemes today. So quick decision making, stretching the field, crosses, screens and max protect at times definately need to be implemented with effective consistency.

To be fair Levi Brown was worse.

And it was a joke not giving him any help all day. I mean, I understand Dee ford apparently knew the snap count and smith didn’t (I mean, how else to explain the fact that ford was at Rosen before smith even came outta his stance all day), but give the turnstile some help.
Yeah, don't the Cardinals have a fullback? Has anyone seen him lately?

To no one's surprise, Johnson runs a lot better without one, but why not put the guy in to help block??

Not defending Smith, but I guess that we don't have anyone better. Do wish that we'd give him some help with different blocking schemes. We need to address the OL in the offseason. (Thank you Captain Obvious).

You guys think elite lineman grow on trees most bust and the others want best at their position money or close to it.

Over exaggerating because our line has been killed the past couple years with injuries.

Max Starks was on with Doug/Wolf

asked to evaluate the o-line vs KC

his diagnosis: a lack of fight

that was damning

That is a sobering set of facts when lineup next to each other.

Except that the "facts" presented are totally incorrect.

The Cardinals saved $6.9M on the cap by traded Veldheer.

Smith's cap hit for 2018 is $2.6M

So the Cardinals saved $4.3M by making the switch.

Also Veldheer has not been healthy for most of the 2018 season. Not to mention he missed time from training camp last year as he contemplated retirement. You don't make a guy the highest paid RT ($10M per year) with that history.

Correction, he never should have had the starting job. Wetzel is better than him.
Even though Wetzel is on IR? At least Andre - for all his faults - can suit up.

I think a bigger question has to be: Are our linemen more likely to get injured than the norm for other NFL teams? And, if so, what do we need to do that we're currently not doing?

So here are some sobering numbers for all of you based off of the top 2018 Free Agent OL:

Nate Solder got a 4 year $62M contract to make him the highest paid LT in the league at that time. Here is a ranking of the 11 wrong decisions by the Giants and Solder came in at #2:

But Solder has been worse than could have been imagined, possibly not even an upgrade over Flowers. Solder has never made a Pro Bowl, but was trusted to block Tom Brady's blind side.

Lesson learned over and over: The Patriots rarely let a worthy free agent walk away.

https://www.nj.com/expo/sports/erry-2018/11/1a5208df7c2578/ranking-giants-11-wrong-decisi.html

Andrew Norwell was the prize FA OL of the 2018 free agent class. The Jaguars ended up paying left tackle money to land this prize.

Andrew Norwell The prized free agent signee has not lived up to his huge contract. The former All-Pro guard has looked average at best for the majority of the season.

The offensive line as a whole has been underwhelming, arguably the worst unit on the team. Andrew Norwell gets singled out because so much was expected of him and little has been delivered.

https://blackandteal.com/2018/11/01/three-jaguars-watch-second-half-2018/

Justin Pugh signed a 5 year $45M contract and lasted half the season before heading to IR

Zach Fulton signed a 4 year $28M contract with the Texans and has been ranked by PFF below John Wetzel.

Josh Sitton signed a 2 year $13.5M contract and didn't last but a couple of games before heading to IR

Those are the top 2018 FA OL that moved to new teams. So hoping to fix your OL through FA is expensive and not as easy as it sounds.

Or maybe any job after today. He could be the worst starting offensive linemen in the entire league.

And it was a joke not giving him any help all day. I mean, I understand Dee ford apparently knew the snap count and smith didn’t (I mean, how else to explain the fact that ford was at Rosen before smith even came outta his stance all day), but give the turnstile some help.

I liked this before I read your point because all points for this guy equals he is a terrible tackle. K9 was all over this joker from jump.

me too! me too!

From,

The Toddler King (Ouchie is the Prince)

Yep you were too.

Even a homer like me is starting to turn on Keim. Yes you drafted a franchise QB. Then you let your other moves get him killed.

I'm telling ya... this team can't afford to follow in the Suns footsteps and give Keim the keys to the castle again with a huge off-season ahead with a likely top 3 pick and solid cap room. Learn the lessons from McD and follow Keim's own words. Better to let a guy go a year too early than too late.

We've been trending down for three years and I don't know how any player in the organization respects him after not only one of the worst off-seasons on the field and off the field.
