Not a favorable comparison. In a do over, Vince Young might drop to the 3rd round.

"If wishes were horses, then beggars would be riders".

Huh? Are you implying someone has a crystal ball and will have the benefit of seeing what Newton will be a bust or star?

I don't think you get what I am saying. I am not saying Newton will defintely be a star in the NFL(although I like him better then anyone not named Luck to make that happen), I am talking about the evaluation process and happens between Feb and the draft in April.

Thats the analogy I am making. The same process that led to VY going from a mid first rounder to a Top 3 pick (and that happened TIME AND TIME again with ALL prospects with insane physical ability) will happen with Newton.

Hey look I got quotes too;)

Eh. QB is the hardest position to replace. Every year I hear the pundits talk about "oh this team is going to be no good they lost all these seniors!" but it usually only comes down to if they lost their QB or not. Just look at the Gators. They only had 14 seniors last year, one of whom was Tebow. See how that worked out for them? It'd be one thing if you were talking about a smash-mouth team like Wisconsin, but that's not really Stanford.

Actually that is Stanford. People seem to have this perception that Stanford throws the ball a ton but they really don't. they only throw an average of 29 times a game, 5 times this year they threw less than 25 times in a game.

Harbaugh has a very balanced offense they run the ball very often and they love to power run, they use extra linemen as TE's, or run out of 2 TE sets. it's why they use Maricic the LB as a blocking FB. They're not TOSU under Woody Hayes, but considering how good Luck is they really don't throw it that much, he has only 3 games this year over 300 yards.

Yeah, after watching Stanford pound teams with Toby Gerhart and Maricic these past few seasons they are every bit as smashmouth as Wisconsin. Wisconsin throws more than the average fan would guess, and Stanford runs more.

You are doing what you are accusing me of doing. BTW. How has Vince Young worked out?

Thank god, we don't need to waste a bunch of money on another QB bust.
We will whoop the 9ers, they will pick ahead of us. They will bust ass to get Luck and Harbaugh. If that doesn't happen, they will go Newton. Then we will get to face Luck/Cam and Bradford in our division for the next 10 years. If Luck stays in school, the QB's worth taking that early in the first (top 10) will be gonzo by the time we get up.
Sorry for this depressing post, my lady is on her way with coffee.:p

2 things going on here:

1. The potential lockout---as split second pointed out. Might as well stay and play at Stanford in that scenario.

Good mention.

They interviewed his father during the West Virginia Bowl game yesterday and they asked him about Luck leaving early or not. His dad specifically brought up the labor issues in talking about what will go into his sons decision. Didn't say his son has made a decision yet, they need to do some more research, but his answers and tone didn't sound like they were leaning towards leaving school early.

With Singletary out, the niners are going to push hard for Harbaugh. If Harbaugh goes, Luck comes out. If there is a strike/lockout, he can still finish his degree at stanford, and not play.

My nightmare scenario is the 49ers losing to us on Sunday, finishing with a Top 3 pick because of it, hiring Jim Harbaugh and then having the necessary draft capital to move up and get Luck.

The irony is at pick #10 or #9 they can't make the trade up happen likely to #1.

I think people have this misconstrued with me because I will be watching the game with friends and will be cheering for the Cards for that three hours. But after the emotion wears off and logic sets in.....I am scared out of mind for the above scenario to play out.

We could win the game this Sunday and literally pay for it for the next ten years.

Hypothetical and a bit Paranoid? Yeah probably.

But if you listened to Peter King last night during the game, the 9ers have targeted Harbaugh as their guy and if they bring him in, you can bet the farm (pun intended) they are going to do everything they can to get that top pick. Maybe Oliver Luck/Andrew will pull a Archie Manning/Eli and *gulp* force a trade, and again logic dictates they would be a player in that scenario as well.

Hopefully new Carolina coach Russ Grimm wants to trade with his ol buddy Whisenhunt instead;)

You lost me at the point where you said you have friends, I find that hard to believe;)
I think with Sam Bradford in our division we are looking up at the division title for a couple of years if they get him a top Wr corp. SF will be right there down at the bottom with us regardless of this draft or who coaches them.
