If the Suns retain Richardson, how about Marion to the Warriors for Dampier and Dunleavy?

The Warriors like Dunleavy, but he has been erratic and Marion is obviously at a completely different level. The Warriors have been holding out on sign-and-trade proposals because they've wanted too much, but here they get an enormous upgrade at SF instead of losing Dampier for nothing.

It's a great deal for Dampier, because the Suns could start him at ~$8 million and it's looking unlikely that he'll be able to get that kind of money any other way.

The Suns throw the starting SF/SG spots up for grabs between Johnson, Richardson, and Dunleavy, with the loser becoming the sixth man. If Johnson goes back into his shell, or Dunleavy cops an attitude, the Suns can let either player go when his rookie contract is up.

Phoenix
C - Dampier/Voskuhl/Lampe
PF - Stoudemire/Vroman/Cabarkapa
SF - Johnson/Dunleavy/Cabarkapa
SG - Richardson/Dunleavy
PG - Nash/Barbosa

Golden State
C - Foyle/Eschmeyer/Robinson
PF - Murphy/Robinson
SF - Marion/Pietrus
SG - Pietrus/Richardson
PG - Van Exel/Claxton

The Warriors have some work left to do but still have their MLE.

For whatever it's worth, GS is still below the salary cap. That means they "could" do a deal with Dampier starting at $9 for Marion at $11.3 without having to throw in another player.

Trade a 26 year old allstar player to tie up your money with a 30yr old 6'11 center who has underachieved his whole career? No.

We are so young it is hard not to go with Dampier, but to give up so much for him it wouldnt be worth the risk.

How long would this contract for Erick Dampier be? If he's going to get a contract starting at $8 million I wouldn't want him for more than four years. I'm not even sure I would want him for that long.

Honestly, I don't think the Phoenix Suns want erick Dampier. I doubt they are really making any serious offers for him.
