I really think he gets the team dynamic. That playing time MUST be earned regardless of draft status, potential, etc. In the old days, the Cardinals were so depleted talent-wise that the rookies were immediately thrown to the wolves. There was also the additional pressure from the media & fan-base that were so desperate to see any sign of hope. ...And what of the veterans who had been there busting their butt for years?? SORRY, this un-proven, un-tried rookie, was just "awarded" YOUR job. I'm sure that didn't help with team unity, and I'm a believer that WHEN a team is UNITED, WHEN it becomes ONE, GREAT THINGS can happen!

So, as I look at this current group of Cardinals, I see them starting to earn their "wings". I'm thinking in particular of Beanie Wells. Do you notice his body-language when he comes out?? It's like...C'mon, coach. Let me STAY in. Makes me think of a thoroughbred just before the gate goes up. He's being primed and he has been coming soooooo close to that....Wells in the open-field...He's GONE!!!!!!!!!

But, he isn't the only one. I see the rookies maturing before our eyes. 2nd & 3rd year players are starting to find their niche'. ..And the veterans KNOW, that it's MY job. Someone's going to have to take it from me. Alot has been made of Whiz's play-calling, etc. BUT I think we are where we are because of his LEADERSHIP!! ...And you CAN'T put a price on that. GO CARDS!

While there is no doubt Whisenhunt has done a remarkable job in turning around the Cards I have no sympathy for the veterans on those old Cards teams that routinely got pounded 5 or 6 times a year and continually found unique ways to lose another 5. Or couldn't wait to get out of town or were just picking up a last big paycheck. Those guys deserved to lose their jobs to "untested" rookies.

What is great is that now we have veterans that are not being replaced by raw rookies, not really because of any grand scheme by the coaches, but because the vets can actually play football. You want to make the Cards roster and get playing time you better be able to perform. I love it.

THis is exactly what is making our Cardinals better. The players have genuine competition for the job, (ALL FACETTES OF THE JOB). The rooks can't just come in and start, because they need to learn the nuances of the position before they can compete with the starters. They can spell the starters, and thus gain experience based on what they have learned from the playbook, and from practice, but they can't just displace a vet just because they can run or catch or throw. I really like Whiz' philosophy on that-----and it has proven to be a team-building philosophy. WE DO THIS TOGETHER, vets helping rooks, rooks spelling vets, EVERYONE contributing.

As mad and frustrated as I get at this team, I am so thankful for Whiz. He is not infallible, but he has done what other coaches have dreamed of: He has brought a winner to Arizona. Go Cards and go Whiz!!!

This is the off season that will show if all these younger guys are ready. We have a lot of contract issues coming up in the very near future.
