Gentleman, i think the Cardinals should draft Ryan Moats from La Tech. He is a stud running back in a Barry Sanders mold. Wears the same number, looks like him on the field too. I think he has like 600 yards rushing through 3 games this year. Anyone else heard of this guy?

Ah yes, Antrell Rolle. Isn't he the guy no one wanted to credit with shutting down Fitz, mano y mano last year ? Hee Hee.

Just a fantastic athlete, with a great family background and a class act. Came back for his senior year to graduate, and go for NC and love of UM.

Cards will have to finish in worst 3 spots to draft this guy in my op. He is a top 3 draft choice.

Justin Miller..........now there's a VERY good CB. Will be the third CB taken, if he decides to come out. He's a Junior. Believing as I do that we will draft in and around 15, that's who I have my eyes on!

Where would I find a list of FAs for next season?

I like the idea of Rolle as our first rd. pick, but I can't shake the feeling that we need a big time nose tackle to help the production of our smaller undertackles.

Pariah,

To the best of my knowledge, here are the UFA/DT's that are available in 2005:

a)Pat Williams/BUFF
b)Jason Ferguson/NYJ
c)Seth Payne/HOU
d)Corey Simon/PHI
e)Shaun Rogers/DET
f)Chris Hovan/MIN
g)Willie Blade/DAL
h)Otis Leverette/SD

Obviously, of all on this list, the three who warrant a real close look are:

a)Corey Simon (6'2"/293). He was the 6th overall pick in 2000
b)Chris Hovan (6'2"/294). He was a 1st round pick in 2000
c)Shaun Rogers (6'4"/345). He might have been the "steal" of the 2001 draft. He was the 61st pick overall.

Hovan was obviously picked by Green so we might have a shot at him, but I'd take anyone of them.

Or (longshot Cards pick) is an OT like Eric Winston more to Green's liking? Personally I hope not.

Antrel Rolle in round one.
Darren Sproles in round two.

Dont you think the RB from Wis Badgers is more than likely someone Green would target? He is in the mold of Michael Bennett.

Just an FYI regarding this list of DT's. Willie Blade and Otis Leverette were both late TC cuts. Blade has moved over to Jacksonville and Leverette to the 49'ers. Sorry to pollute a thread on Antrel Rolle with this other info, but the question was asked and I did have the answer.

Of the 3 Rogers is the best fit, the others are more "under" tackles than run stuff guys to play next to Dockett.
Rogers has had an injury history but when healthy he's been terrific, did I mention we picked Stone over him?

On the subject of Sproles and small RB's, we could wait a year and take Reggie Bush from SC when he's draft eligible. USC lists him at 6' 200, I bet he's closer to 5'9" maybe 5'10", but he may be the most exciting player in college football and he is the guy that's stepped up to replace Mike Williams.

He's more of a combo player in he beats you as a RB, WR, and kick returner, he may be the "next Terry Metcalf." Probably not a high first rounder because he doesn't have a clear position, but like Sproles he can beat you a lot of different ways.

I dont think it is a question of finding someone to play next to Dockett but rather a question of who is an upgrade. As of right now Hovan and Simon are both upgrades over Dockett, dont get me wrong I like the kid, it is just that no one is safe as long as it is an upgrade. It isnt like Dockett is making starting money either so he can play a backup role without him being overpriced.

I wouldnt be surprised if Green goes after all 3 this offseason.

I concur with Russ...after watching Bush dismantle my Cougs on Saturday I am a believer. Line him up as KR, PR, WR, and RB. All kinds of speed and appears to be a pretty tough kid as well...problem is I don't think Denny can wait until next year to draft a back. Hopefully he sticks with the BPA attitude if Bush is on the board when the Cards pick next year.

Detroit has quietly put together what I would say is one of the most well-balanced teams in the league. They have young talent all over the place.
They'd be wise to resign this guy.

There is NO NO NO way that we could afford all three.......cmon joe! We are not trying to build an instant SB team by going into cap hell and if Dockett shows that he is "getting it" as the season progresses we won't need to do this anyway.

Sure glad you aren't running this team.

Russ,

I posted this on another thread.........Rogers has played in 46 games since being drafted in 2001......that an average of 15 per season. Where does this injury problem scenario come from?

FYI everyone......regarding Shaun Rogers and a perceived injury problem:

Since being drafted in 2001 he has played in 46 games (averaging over 15 per season).......missing 2 in 2002 with a broken bone in his hand. He wore a cast for all of the remaining games and that is why his numbers were a little disappointing in 2002. He returned to form in 2003 and blew the socks off.

As Section 11 has pointed out, if Detroit are stupid enough not to extend him them we put a full court press on him and ante up the big dough.

I never said "sign" all 3 but rather "go after" all 3. There is a big difference in the 2. Going after all 3 doesnt mean sign all 3 of them. You really couldnt understand that.

You dont put all of your eggs in one player and hope he signs, all the while the other 2 get away, then the one you do go after doesnt sign here, then you are left with nothing. You bring in all 3, hand out offers to all of them, then hope the one who is #1 on your list excepts your offer, if not then move on to #2 on your list and so on.

Just like I hope we go after avery single FA RB this offseason. It raises your chances of at least signing one of them.

I see what you meant now.........as to a FA RB..........like CB's, anyone who is really good will be overpriced.........better to get this in the draft.

PK, Bush is a 19 year old soph so he has at least one more year at USC before draft eligible.

he IS fun to watch isn't he?

College and the NFL. The reason he was a 2nd rounder is his leg injury in college, allegedly he showed up at the combine in a wheelchair.

I was furious when we took Stone over him, he and Hampton were guys I loved in college.

he's been banged up in teh pros too, he's playing hurt now. I like the guy, I just think you have to be aware of his injury history as things you can play with when your young, you can't always continue to play with when you get older.

He's a perfect fit for our defense IMHO.

I agree, I think the RB's this year will be turn out just like the crazy amounts of cash thrown at CB's last offseason.

But I will say that if we come out of next offseason having only signed Alexander or Henry, a few depth guys at other positions, and a draft like this years, I will be happy with the whole offseason.

On the subject of FA's though here is a list of some guys at other postions that are FA's that may help out.

TE - Anthony Becht
DE - Shuan Ellis
OT - Kareem McKenzie
CB- Fred Smoot
CB - Ken Lucas
CB - Anthony Henry

Back to the draft...

Antrel Rolle is the guy to target.

I would love to draft a big DT to stuff the run, but the DT class is projected to be very weak. CB is the toughest position to fill because of all the disadvantages due to league rules and you can never really have enough of them. The only other positions I would say to target in round 1 are RB or possibly OT. We have other needs of course, but these position tend to be the better athletes and can be immediate impact players.
