Anyone else think Wilson was weak today?

Yep the screen pass to Peterson late for a huge gain really summed up AW this year to me. He hesitated at first like he knew it was a screen, but then he just put his head down and blitzed and they threw right where he vacated for the big gain. It was really obvious on tv that it was a screen you could literally see the blocking forming.

It was almost as if AW said it's a screen, but I'm supposed to blitz so I'm just going to go ahead and do that and hope someone else makes the play.

The killer was the pick he dropped in the endzone, they scored a couple of plays later IIRC.

I thought the exact same thing. Wilson appeared to hesitate as he saw the screen unfold, but instead of adjusting he just goes ahead and tries to blitz Favre and the Vikes throw right at the hole he creates.

A Dub is a great guy, but he is not an elite player. In my opinion he never has been as good as people give him credit. The blitzing has become a joke as he dances with the tackle and ends up 10 feet from the quarterback as the ball is released. He still tries to throw his shoulder at guys (on one of the Berrian catches Wilson has a clean shot at making a good tackle and throws the shoulder and completely whiffs and Berrian gets 20 more yards).

They play him more like a LB now anyway. So I say put him in the LB rotation let him play a Dansby role in a tampa 2

I think Daryl Washington would be better playing that role if that's what the Cards want to do. Younger and faster.

Adub's strength in coverage would be to drop deep and cover one half of the field keeping the play in front of him in a deep zone, instead of trying to matchup 1vs1 vs a TE/WR or RB. He has good straight line speed but struggles mightily when transitioning from a backpedal straight ahead run. Change of direction is not his strong suit.

Either way, his ability seems to be diminishing some and he's getting up there in a age a little. We're going to have to start looking for his replacement very soon.

I'm not sure if it's ability or getting his stinking mind right. It's not that he doesn't try hard or work out etc., he just seems confused and uncertain with his decision making.

He was very bad. His coverage skills are awful. No impact.

Yes he was poor. As this team loses more games you will see less effort from many of the players. He is more disgusted than any of us you can count on that. Maybe not as disgusted as Fitz. None of us should be surprised we lost. We are a bad team anyway you look at it. We will be the underdog in all the games left for good reason. Nothing has gone well for us this year. The reason is we are a bad team. We have the wrong mix and no QB now or of the future. How many times have we tried to draft a new QB or pickup some cast off over the years? It has been a long long time since we had a very good QB that was here for more than five years. As for winning the divison I am not so sure I would even want that to happen. We would get smashed on our first playoff game and would draft to low to get a QB.

two things about AW today:

1. the Vikes were good at getting AW matched up 1 on 1 with a WR (often Harvin). That isn't a good matchup for any safety in the NFL.

2. AW coverage on the TD pass was pretty good -- Favre just made a better throw. It happens sometimes.

I fully agree. Thing is it seems to happen more then just sometimes with AW.

I'm not ready to throw A-Dub under the proverbial Trailways; but I would like to know if there's something going on that we fans don't know about - a hidden injury? A personal problem? Is he covering for some other DB who isn't doing his job?

Something ain't right. A guy with his reputation should be be in on at least two or three times the number of plays he's actually involved in. In too many cases, he's conspicuous by his absence.

What gives?

He has seemed to lose the ability to match up man on man. He can still produce if he can roam free. But he is getting burned one on one and its costing the defense.

I think it could be a little bit of both. Over the years, for all the punishment he's dealt out to opposing players, his body has also taken one heck of a pounding.

The cumulative effects of having a battered body can have a profound effect on a player's mental game. The slightest bit of hesitation can mean the difference between making a play or getting burned.

I still like Adub...don't get me wrong when I say this, but I really believe that this offseason, we're going to have find his, along with Gerald Hayes, replacement either through the draft or via free agency, to groom for a year, maybe 2.

I've never found Adrian to be very good at man to man coverage. He's always been best in a zone where he can keep the play in front of him in my opinion. Thing is this year...it seems like opposing teams have found a better way to get Adub isolated against a TE/WR.

Exactly, you could see it yesterday time and time again they'd get a formation that resulted in AW man to man on someone.

On the TD pass he had really good coverage but Favre threw it behind him and he's so stiff he can't change direction to make that play.

Lenon on a few plays was chasing a TE or RB in the middle, on one at least he was on a WR. I'll never understand how the defense can result in a situation like that but it does.
