He misplayed a catchable foul ball for out #2 and we will probably lose now at the hands of 2 formerly inept DBacks. UGHHHHHHH

Snyder's attempt at trying to catch that popup was pathetic. He is not the only person with a lackadaisical effort. It starts with the manager and is rubbing off on many of the players.

Not for me completely

Look, I may be guilty of not expressing myself clearly here. I don't think Snyder is a bad defensive catcher, I just don't think he's a great defensive catcher. Statistics lie and don't always show the clear picture. When I made my point it was because Snyder was not hitting his weight and he was supposedly in the lineup because of his great defense. I then proceeded to see him misplay a foul ball that ended up costing us a game and then saw 2 wild pitches charged to pitchers that I clearly felt were pass balls. I personally like the platoon system with Montero and Snyder because it will cause them to play hard and earn the time in the lineup. We can now see how good a game they really call for the pitchers since BoMel is no longer signalling in the pitches.

So statistics lie but your subjective opinion does not?

To be fair and unfair at the same time:

The stats quoted by Harley don't necessarily tell the truth, considering the blogger in question chooses which stats to examine and applies an arbitrary weight to them in order to make a list. Who's to say that SB% is equal weight to Error count in Catchers?

However, I think the "stats lie" comment is overplayed by people who get called out making a piss poor observation about a player or the game in general. Consensus of those who paid to give their evaluation of a player is that Snyder is a very good defensive catcher. I also think it's telling that a sinkerball pitcher like Webb prefers and trusts Snyder behind the plate so much.

True. I looked at alot of sites and I chose to post that one not because it supported my stance but because it just had an easy to follow flow to it.

FWIW- most sites I found all pretty much had the same conclusions.

As to your second paragraph, you nailed it spot on.

AzKarl - nothing personal, but I generally can't stand when people say "that cost them the game." No it didn't. There are a TON of plays that are made or not made in every game. That was one of them. That didn't cost them the game. He thought (I believe) that he was about to fall into the other dugout so he held up. Pitchers still need to make their pitches and hitters still have to hit. THAT is what cost the team that game.

when a wide receiver doesnt get to a ball and make a play that he should, it doesnt count as a drop, but he should have made the play. same with baseball. adam dunn doesnt get to balls, but he doesnt drop them so it isnt an error. if his fielding percentage is good does that make him a good defender? Snyder is average at best.

I'm a die hard Dbacks fan and admittedly get frustrated and emotional about them. I'll accept your statement as constructive criticism of my observations. There is something to the fact that others seem to favor Montero more than he has been favored by BoMel.

Couldn't agree more!

It's a tough time right now to be a D-back fan, but us diehards will still be there.

Considering that both Snyder and Montero are starting to really swing the bat well, you have to wonder how much longer before the club gets desperate enough to plop one of them at first base. Diamondbacks first basemen are currently hitting an atrocious .183/.265/.598 on the year. That's a stunningly low split OPS+ of 42.

If not at first base, how 'bout centerfield??
