We've got a second year QB (who also happens to be a 2-time NCAA champion, a Heisman winner and a top-10 draft pick) that's struggling a little in a new offense...so what do the fans do? Get all over his butt for hanging out at a pool the night before and accusing him of not knowing the playbook or putting in the work?

Bad form, gentlemen. Bad form.

Leinart is going to be a damned good QB. But you need to know there will be bumps in the road to getting there. Most players don't get to take the Peyton Manning Super-Highway to success.

Pariah, you are a gentleman and a scholar. I agree. How many second years QB's are successful in a new offense with a new coaching staff? I would be surprised to hear of who they were.

You mean like throwing 28 INTs in your first 16 games?

if he's not ready, then he shouldn't be playing. plenty of qb's come off the bench once they are ready and play well for the rest of their career. warner gives us the best chance to win right now and that is what the NFL is about, winning. this team isn't in total rebuild mode so i see no reason to give games away.

Leinart's 13/15 in 15 games (14 starts). Do you mean Manning? If so, wow...I didn't know he did that.

Yes, that's how many Manning threw. He did also have 26 tds that first year, but it was not by any means all glorious.

I'll just cut and paste for you Pariah:

Yea it really is a problem. If you can't see that being in a hot tub partying with chicks the evening before a big game is a problem then I really dont know what to say. I dont care if he is in by curfew. He OBVIOUSLY has a hard time learning the gameplan from week to week and isnt savvy enough to run a 2 minute offense for christs sake. He obviously should be in his room concentrating on football the night before the game.

The kid is a good looking superstar he has plenty of time for that crap later.

Just more signs of complete immaturity and a complete unwillingness to take this game seriously!

I wouldnt care if he was doing this stuff andplaying even decent. BUT HE ISNT! He is not even adequate. HE STINKS!

You dont KNOW that he will be good or great we only HOPE! He has to be willing to put in the work. He doesnt appear to be willing as of yet!

It may not have been glorious but it looked a crap load better than what we are seeing now.

Why? Because he appears poolside 18 hours before a game?

You don't know what kind of work he's putting in.

I don't disagree, but you are also talking about maybe the best QB to ever play the game...just showing that even the best struggle early on.

I know hes not putting enough in when he is a guy who is said to have the best football acumen of any QB in years and yet according to our headcoach now 3 weeks in a row we are hearing about how he has "had to much put into the gamplean in week 1" Week 2 he "had to simplify it to make Matt more comfy" Week 3 he "had to put Warner in to run the two minute Offense because Matt deosnt know it well enough and isnt as comfy with it"

All very telling signs. There are things that arent right in Matt land right now that is obvious.

I actually agree with Shane (UNBELIEVABLE). The guy can't handle a whole playbook or the two minute offense. He is the only guy on offense that apparently cannot. That is a big deal. The problem is he's shown more than flashes of his ability. He has show he is legit. So there has to be other things going on. The fans, players, and ownership have had their growing pains, and either you believe the team can win now or you think, as always, they are a few years off. If you think they can win now, its obvious the only reason they aren't 3-0 is Matt. If you think they are a few years off, well the only reason they may be is Matt. Based on last year, Matt should be ready to handle the whole offense, and for some reason he is not. So naturally his preperation and lifestyle come into question, and I think it is fair. Something has changed in him, not just the playbook. The other 10 guys, even Elton Brown, are balling, but Matt is not. Hopefully the benching was a wake up call, but I doubt it. You can't just flip the switch. I bet we'll see Warner on Sunday and maybe for awhile. I don't want another season to go down the drain, and I think Matt can learn from the experience that would help him down the road. Whether you like it or not, boo birds await him at the U of P this weekend. Like Shane said, something is wrong in Matt land and it isn't just inexperience.

Well, Edge said he's in Leinart's ear all the time on how Peyton prepared for games. So maybe Edge told him Manning has his best games on the road after a little topless pool rendezvous the night before the game  :D.

 Leinart is struggling right now. He could very well come out Sunday and light it up. But he won't.
Why?
Because Whiz will go back to his style of offense. I think we will get a huge dose of Edge this week. The only reason we opened up last week was cause we fell behind.
Many of us have complained about our defense. Well a way to help our defense is to keep them off the field with a running game and time of possesion. We need balance.
Relax everybody. Support Leinart. Don't start booing him after his first incompletion. He's is not going to learn sitting on the bench.

The guy can't handle a whole playbook or the two minute offense. He is the only guy on offense that apparently cannot.

Only two guys on the team are required to. One is a greybeard who is a great QB with loads of experience. The other is a second year guy who is not only learning the playbook but the position in the NFL and also having his mechanics adjusted.

Nobody else on the team is required to know where everyone else is supposed to be, particularly every WR and RB, on every single play in the book other than Kurt and Matt.

The arguement that he is young, basically a rookie, isn't sitting real well with me. He played in 12 or 13 games last year, I cant remember. And he played really well most of the time. What ever happened to the "Matt Leinart is the most NFL-ready QB in the draft?" This isn't his rookie year. He has had a whole offseason to learn the offense and he has not. Again, I have never, ever, heard of a team using a different QB in the no huddle because a young QB wasn't ready. Either you are ready, or you are not. You can't have it both ways. I'm not buying the fact that he is too young. He's shown too much already to make me believe that. He's got what it takes. I think Whiz hinting after week one and this game that he just hasn't prepared is real. He could be really brutal and tell the media straight up, but he isn't and thats probably a good thing long term.

Why is everyone ignoring the fact that the staff has already said they are working on his mechanics and especially his footwork. If you look at his feet, he clearly is having problems adjusting...he looks nothing like he did in the pocket last season. Doesn't it stand to reason that this has more to do with his poor play than he all of the sudden became stupid or isn't concentrating enough on the playbook? I mean, you can look at him and SEE the difference in his feet, which leads to dirt darts off his back foot, which leads to him tightening up and getting afraid to throw. He's working on a hell of a lot, I'm not surprised he hasn't digested the playbook yet.

As in real grown men NFL playbook, not watered down incompetent OC/hea coach playbook.

then shouldn't he sit for a few weeks until his mechanics are good? im tired of this team throwing games away. from what we've seen from warner in preseason and last game, he gives the cards the best chance to win at this time until matt gets his act together.

I don't think that is a bad argument, honestly. And if he can't overcome it and have good games, that's exactly what we will see. I'm down with whatever whis wants to do.
