ST (3): Dawson, Leone, Brewer

Dawson is a joy to watch. The key thing in this game is that Richie Leone was doing the holding. Both Leone and Matt Wile boomed 60+ yard punts and Wile was very good on his kickoffs. But, if Leone is holding for Dawson, that's a giveaway as to who is winning the punting job.

Good overall assessment as usual Mitch, but I will point out that we can't judge who is going to win the punter battle by who is holding for FG's in preseason game 2 of 5. It's more likely we'll get a better feel if he is holding for kicks in game 4.

Played well:

Bynes. He was all over the place on defense. Made plays against the run, on the blitz, and in pass coverage. I think he looked better than Fua or Gabe Martin. It may be a blessing in disguise that he was signed to replace them.

Penny. Ran the ball pretty well, but I noticed his play on special teams. IMO he should have a leg up over Ellington because of his play on coverage units and Kerwynns play as a returner.

Bundy. Looked good in the second half getting separation. The receiver corps as a whole played like crap. Multiple drops or uncaught balls. I think a better receiver wouldve caught that bomb from Palmer that Jaron couldn't corral. Hubert and Ross not coming down with those TDs was inexcusable.

Wright. Played well in a phone booth and on special teams. He is like a more relentless but slowee Minter. He belongs but only in goaline and special teams packages.

Bazzie and Capi. Both made a few plays and deserve a look.

Shelton. Was beaten a few times but also was close in coverage. I'd look for him to take the last CB slot or priority PS guy.

Who stunk:

Ellington
Harlan Miller
Most of the CBs
Dorian Johnson/Will Holden
(All the talk of Johnson beating out Boehm looked ridiculous last night)
The Wrs not named Bundy.

If he can play like he did, last night, I think that KW has locked up a RB spot. Realize that he had a fumble, but he doesn't seem to have a fumbling history, and he is our best KR/PR option. I'll add that CJ2K has to show something besides his resume, if we are to keep him over AE. I know that he has been great, but is now a year older. Right now Penny looks like our third best RB. Still three games to go. Keep up the great work, Mitch.

I understand he didn't have a good night, but once again, Chris Hubert, matched his great stop and go move from the Dallas game. Both were pretty to watch, but neither were completions.

Good point. Thought they would have shown something by now that merits taking them in the draft. Hopefully they just need some time to adjust, but they better make it quick if they want a spot on the roster.

I don't think there was much talk about him beating out boehm, moreso boehm sliding over to center

I don't Blame kerwynn much on the fumble. He was doing the right thing, showing great ability to stay up and squeeze out some extra yards. The defender hit the ball fiercely with the crown of his helmet. Not many will hold on to the ball in that same spot. Because he was on the ground, fighting to keep a one up and get another yard or two, two hands on the ball would have been impossible.

Agree and will add that he did IMO get the ball back, he ripped it out of the Raider players arms.

Krang - Read a lot of write-ups and began to wonder if we were all watching the same game. Your account is as close to what I saw as any of them.

I'm mainly talking about the end of the roster guy off the line players.

Really hard to consistently evaluate line play in the preseason with all the players coming in and out and such.

I saw Pierre rush a time or two and saw what BA was talking about. He's quick and should provide some pass rush tgis year.

I saw a few posts on that topic because BA said it was Boehms job and some felt Dorian should have a shot at it.

CJ >>>>>AE at most RB tasks.

Neither play special teams. AE is a better reciever, but I would rather start CJ over AE if I needed one of the backups to start.

Yep, unless he was considered down due to no forward momentum

Dorian hardly played...not until the middle of the 4th Q which is probably because he looked so bad in the first game. He is 64. The other D Johnson is 71 and played LG. He looked terrible. Either way, it doesn't seem like Boehm is getting pushed like we hoped he would.

While I'm sure that Brittan Golden won't beat him out, but, at least to me, he has looked better than JJ Nelson in the first two games. And while he's not as fast as JJ, he is pretty fast.

Between last year and so far this pre season, I have B. Golden on the 53. That WR group is interesting. Don't know if Williams will show enough to justify keeping him just on his draft status, considerig the overall talent of the group.

Ellington may be out baring an injury. Knock on wood. He could still be impactful however as a regular reserve, but he doesn't have that role here now.

I think we keep 6 wideouts (Fitz, Jo,Brown, Ja Brown, Nelson, #5 and #6.

Barring an earthquake, odds are very strong that C Williams will be our #5, and - if we had to decide right now - our #6 would most likely be Golden.

But we don't have to decide right now, and BA might be hoping that one of the big dudes (Bundy and Ross the front-runners) will make the big leap onto the 53.

I also expect SK to try to sneak Hogan, Dobson or Agadusi etc.onto the PS (Good luck with that). Of course, injuries could screw everything up.

I don't believe Dobson is eligible. He's a vet but I'm not sure of the years of service.
