We are in the middle of March Madness as the NCAA Tournament dominates the minds of sports fans this weekend. But while you are paying attention to your bracket, perhaps you have time to look at a new two-round mock draft from Draft Wire's Jeff Risdon.

His pick for the Arizona Cardinals at No. 16 overall is not a surprise, but his pick for them in the second round is a player we have not seen connected to them.

Arizona Cardinals' picks in 2-round mock draft

  • Round 1 (No. 16 overall): Ohio State OL Josh Simmons
  • Round 2 (No. 47 overall): Florida State CB Azareye'h Thomas

Analysis

The Simmons pick is 100% a possibility. He is supposed to be able to test at his pro day in April, so hopefully he will not need to sit out his rookie season. With Jonah Williams in place at right tackle, the Cardinals could easily slide Simmons in at right guard, where the starter is uncertain, for his rookie season, while Williams plays out the final year of his deal.

The Cardinals go premium positions from big schools in the first two rounds.

Thomas is more of a "hmmm". They have drafted three cornerbacks in the top 90 in the last two drafts. But Thomas, while he only has two career interceptions, he broke up 10 passes in 2023. He has size at 6-foot-1 and 197 pounds.
