Arizona Cardinals sport new look in 1st full-speed practice

There were plenty of new things displayed on Tuesday at the Cardinals’ first full speed practice of the off-season.

From the head coach (Bruce Arians), to the General Manager (Steve Keim), to the starting quarterback (Carson Palmer) to the single-man blocking sleds (World Sporting Goods).

All that was missing from the first practice of veterans voluntary minicamp was the smell of fresh paint.

“From the way we huddle up to the way we call the snap count, it’s new for a lot of guys,” said Palmer, acquired in a trade with the Raiders on April 2. “Right now, there is a lot of teaching.”

This is the second week in which coaches have been able to work with players on the field, but Tuesday was the first regular practice, albeit in shorts and helmets.

Arians and his staff voiced their displeasure when moved to do so, but the coach said the team made fewer mistakes than he expected.

“Really pleased with the first day,” Arians said. “I was pleasantly surprised on the amount of mistakes we cut down, even from our walk through. We had a couple of turnovers, quarterback-center snap exchange problems. We preach hard that we’re not going to beat ourselves.”

At first I thought it looked like Todd Heap (but that can't be right). But, I think it is Nate Potter. Rugby is probably right.

Some notes gathered from MJ's radio stuff and Somers blog.

1 - Shaunessy is in fact playing OLB. Will work as a DE in nickel packages, with Dockett sliding inside, but who ever brought up the idea of him getting time at OLB on this board, Good Call.

2 - 4 more coaches on the staff compared to the last is very noticeable. Class sizes have shrunk.

3 - OL is actually splitting off into groups now where one coach will work with the interior guys and another coach will work with the exterior guys(including TE's).

4 - Where in years past when they went to special teams work maybe 2 or 3 of the positional coaches would help out in the teaching. So far on this staff when they move to special teams work there are 6-7 of the position coaches helping to teach.

5 - This staff is more aggressive and vocal when they are teaching. Lots more F bombs.

6 - Stanton has a cannon, but the cannon rarely hits the same spot two times in a row, very erratic with his accuracy.

7 - Kolb and Skelton could get the ball down the field, but Palmer does it with more arc to it, making it easier for his receivers get under it.

8 - Housler is going to have a big roll in this offense (if we already didn't know BA likes his TE's.

Housler.....dude is a ghost...every offseason he's gonna be 'the man' every year....nothing but a ghost.

I'll believe it when I see it

Housler had 45 catches last year, good for 20th among tight ends.

And this is in an offense that didn't value the tight end, and with terrible quarterback play.

This year he has Palmer whos top receiver was a tight end with 79 catches.

I think it's resonable to think Housler could have a breakout year.

Yeah Palmer and Housler is going to be a dirty dirty thing, so long as Palmer can stay upright long enough.

According to Jurecki, Fitz was the only Card not in attendance yesterday. No reason was given, but BA said he'd be there today.
