I am going to try and post all of the Arizona Dbacks transactions in this thread. Easier on the eyes.
Just borrowing the idea from last year.Thanks!

It is a 2-year minor league contract. With our disappointing bullpen, if he should come back to pre-TJ form, what do we have to lose?#Championship
Greinke & Tomas contracts proving detrimental. ARZ is going to have to look at the bottom of the barrel for replacements for Martinez, Ianetta & Rodney or promote the hell out of some prospects.You must be registered for see images attach

Curious as to how they come up with that information... How do they define "room?"
As it says in the chart, based upon 2017 opening day payroll and 2018 financial commitments. We have big jumps in some contracts and a ton of arb players, so our 2018 payroll will go up even without a FA acquisition.
I got that part... just curious as to how they are computing "room." So they clearly know the actual size of our payroll...but how large is the room itself? What are they using as our ceiling?
"Room" = (2017 Opening day payroll + 5%) - (2018 Contract commitments + Estimated arb eligible)
If you look at DET, their 2017 opening day payroll was large, but their obligations for 2018 are small, so they theoretically have "room" to sign FAs if you assume they maintain their payroll totals from last year. DET is likely going to go for a rebuild, so they most likely won't maintain their 2017 payroll though.
The point is, our payroll is increasing significantly without a single FA signing. That portends that we won't be big players for the FA market. We might make a big offseason trade, but not likely a big FA signing.

#Dbacks acquire RHP Brad Boxberger from the Rays for RHP Curtis Taylor. @Brad_Boxberger was an All-Star in 2015, leading the American League with 41 saves.
Low risk, high reward. Didn’t give up much for him and he is making less than $2M this year so even if his health issues persist no big deal.Brad Boxberger, comes in with bases loaded no outs and throws 9 strikes to end the inning.

Ianetta to COL, one of many expected departures. 2 yr $8.5M deal, I don't know how they will replace him as $4.25M a year seems like a steal and ARZ couldn't even pony up that. LuCroy would be great but will command at least twice that annually so he isn't even a blip on the radar.
