NEWS: Infielder Hyeseong Kim is expected to be posted by the Kiwoom Heroes of KBO around noon ET Wednesday. Thus begins a 30-day window for Kim to sign with an @MLB team this offseason.
Luis Severino has agreed to a three-year, $67 million deal with the Athletics, per source. The deal includes a $10 million signing bonus and an opt-out after 2026. @JeffPassan and @Russ_Dorsey1 were on it.
Yanks, Jays, Red Sox, Giants, Orioles are among main players for Corbin Burnes. NYY could possibly, potentially do both Soto and Burnes (but of course they’d look to save $ elsewhere if they did)
Highest-spending teams in free agency so far this winter:
Dodgers: $182 million
Angels: $80.3 million
A’s: $68.8 million
Royals: $51 million
Mets:$34 million
Cubs: $29 million
Another $3 billion or so expected to be guaranteed this winter, according to @kileymcd
's projections.
All 5 teams — Yanks, Mets, Dodgers, Red Sox, Jays — remain in Juan Soto derby. And don’t assume anyone’s a heavy favorite. He is said very patient in his selection process (“like his at-bats”). But his decision is believed within days.
The Cardinals are working from a very limited list of Nolan Arenado's preferred teams as they consider trade possibilities for the future Hall of Famer.
Rival execs say that if the Cardinals are going to move Nolan Arenado, who is owed $64 million, they expect St. Louis would have to either eat some salary or take on a contract a trade partner wants to move. Chris Taylor is owed $17 million on his deal. If LAD wants him, seems like there is middle ground to be found.
BREAKING: Shortstop Willy Adames and the San Francisco Giants are in agreement on a seven-year, $182 million contract, the largest deal in franchise history, sources tell ESPN. Adames, 29, had a career-best 32 home runs and 112 RBIs in 2024. The deal is pending a physical.
Outfielder Tyler O'Neill and the Baltimore Orioles are in agreement on a three-year, $49.5 million contract that includes an opt-out after the first season, a source tells ESPN. O'Neill, 29, hit 31 home runs with Boston in 2024. Deal is pending physical. On the news: @JonHey
Juan Soto is one of the greatest hitters ever, and Mets owner Steve Cohen fully flexed his financial power to get this done. This deal is an outlier in so many ways, and this is one: David Ortiz built a HOF career as a DH, and the highest salary he ever made was $16m. Soto will probably be a DH for more than half of the next 15 years, and he'll be guaranteed $51m annually.
Anthony Santander has strong interest from the AL East clubs that fell short on Juan Soto:
Blue Jays
Red Sox
Yankees
Santander’s 44 HR this season are the 5th-most by a switch hitter, following Mickey Mantle (twice), Lance Berkman, and Chipper Jones.
Source confirms: Free-agent right-hander Jordan Romano in agreement with Phillies on one-year deal above his projected arbitration number of $7.75M, pending physical. First: @JeffPassan
