crazy scene in buffalo tonight
I don't think I've ever seen a single goaltender get into two fights in the same game before. Somebody should have warned Biron that Ray Emery is a registered boxer. Ray ended up with 22 penalty minutes for his little adventure tonight, his first game after serving a three game suspension.

He once roughed up Josh Gratton pretty good when Jost was in Philly's minor league organization.

Peter Forsberg netted Scottie Upshall, Ryan Parent, plus a first and third round pick. Ladislav Nagy managed to get a first rounder, as did Shane O'Brien miraculously. Alexei Zhitnik was traded for highly touted prospect Braydon Coburn.

What is my point? With the exception of Forsberg, these playoff rentals are very average, yet are bringing a substantial amount in return. It definitely seems to be a sellers market, and the Coyotes need to capitalize on it. If this is the going rate this trade deadline, Phoenix absolutely must move their upcoming free agents such as Nolan, Perreault, Adams, and Cujo. They will never have a better chance than this to go with a youth movement.

Another day, another big return for a playoff rental. Keith Tkachuk traded to Atlanta for Glen Metropolit, Atlanta’s 2007 1st round pick, 3rd round pick, a 2nd rounder in 2008. If Atlanta re-signs Tkachuk, they have to send another first round pick to St. Louis. With these prices, the Coyotes better trade every UFA they can.

Craig Rivet traded to San Jose for a first round pick. Yet another average (at best) talent, and GMs are giving out first rounders like halloween candy like never before. This is crazy.

I love it, Emery looked so happy to be getting punched.

In exciting trade deadling news, Philadelphia get Biron from Buffalo. I was hoping the Coyotes could pick him up.

But they replaced Biron with Ty Conklin. Don't know about that.

Pray to god Ryan Miller doesn't get hurt.

There has to be another move coming for Buffalo, I think they did the deal to free up some cap space. It doesnt make any sense otherwise.

The Canadian media is already tearing Edmonton to shreds over trading Ryan Smyth (for a first rounder, Ryan O'Marra and Robert Nilsson). The Oilers had their hand forced as they weren't able to sign Smyth to a new contract. If New York doesn't re-sign him, I anticipate a big push from the Coyotes to get him.

It another one of those situations where Edmonton realizes they aren't going to make the playoffs and they can't get the player signed, so they trade him. They get something for nothing. They will take lots of criticism, but Smyth will make a lot of money as a free agent this offseason.

Sidney Crosby is now the youngest player in NHL history to score 200 points, beating Gretzky by something like 129 days.

Detroit has re-signed Pavel Datsyuk to a seven year deal totaling $46.9M ($6.7M per season). Its going to be another ridiculously overpriced offseason for free agents, I'm afraid.
